Are you ready to bounce around, dance, holler and clap? Moda Magazine is excited to announce Formless, an Artivism Concert, co-directed with , and in collaboration with .

We hope to see you April 3rd at 7pm to fill up the Play Circle Theater in Memorial Union. The event is free to the public but there will be a virtual tip jar available!

“Formless” is defined as having no clear definition, shape or structure. Marginalized identities have to be adaptable in opposing structures but also be able to move outside these structures to take up space. We believe one way to take up space is through art, therefore we are extremely pleased to feature artists from diverse backgrounds. The night will be filled with spoken word, dance, music and collaborations. Swipe through to see some of the artists who will be performing and keep a close eye as we feature the rest of the performers next week!

Warmly the Co-Directors 💙,

Let’s hit the slopes!

Contributing writer, Ava McNarney, explores the recent pivotal changes in the après-ski aesthetic, highlighting the importance of accessibility and inclusion within the sport and associated fashions.

With brands ranging from Free People to Miu Miu including ski wear in their collections, as well as an ethnically diverse model casting in their shows, they are exemplifying “more than just a revelation of a ski hill’s often overlooked beauty, but a step towards cultural change.”

Meet Corbin Woessner, our Fashion director!

She’s heavily involved in UW fashion week and she facilitates fashion editorial shoots which involves creative direction, sourcing clothes, and scouting shoot sites.

Her dream is to be an interior designer and start her own firm, which she hopes will enable her to travel the world and live abroad. She’s studying in Paris this spring, so she’s already off to a good start:)

As an experienced thrifter, Corbin’s advice would be to go to Dig and Save to look through the bins for clothes because they’re so cheap and repurposing is great for the planet. “Be open minded!”

The Art of Juxtaposition.

For designer Simone Rocha, juxtaposition is more than just combining clothing elements that are not expected to go together; it’s a way to challenge ideas of modern femininity.

Utilizing texture, style, and color, contrasting pieces Rocha thoughtfully pairs together speak volumes.

Fashion editorial assistant Jane Housel asserts that Rocha’s choices pave the way for us all: “Without the pressure to stick to one fashion narrative, it becomes easier to use clothes to convey diverse identities and experiences.”

Although in peak popularity some performers benefited financially, this history is one of exploitation.

Read about the rise and fall of freakshows, as well as some of the most famously remembered performers, on page 44 of Hex.

Meet Madeleine Olson, our Programming and Special Events Coordinator!

She plans and handles all things logistics related for Moda events. Madeleine is most excited to work on UW Fashion Week and all its moving parts!

Right now, she’s listening to a lot of 50s and 60s music, like Sam Cooke and Rosemary Clooney. Her favorite cartoon is Anastasia, her favorite junk food is Corn Nuts, and she admits that flowers are the key to her heart.

Madeleine’s advice to her younger self, and all you underclassman Modies out there, would be to quit worrying about doing things in the conventional way, especially when it comes to picking a major.

Reach out to Madeleine if you’d like to learn more about her role!
