While not an “official” City of Madison fireworks show, the Dean family has been lighting up the sky for years on the 4th of July!

It is a huge display that you won’t want to miss! For the best viewing you can park in the high school parking lot or enjoy the view from the first lake road!

They always make sure it is good and dark before the show begins so be prepared for a 10:00 PM or later start time!!

Greenwood County Noxious W**d Department – Updated Hours for Chemical Sales

Effective July 7th, 2025, chemical sales will be available:
Monday-Thursday from 1:00-4:00 PM.
Morning sales will no longer be offered.

We reached out to KDOT for an update about the intersection by Casey’s that has been shut down since mid-April that they are responsible for. This was their response:

“The project will be let for construction in July and work will start later this summer. Since letting has not yet taken place, we don't have a schedule at this point.”

For those unfamiliar, the definition for “let” is: “the process of formally releasing a construction project for bidding and awarding the contract to a selected contractor. It involves advertising the project, receiving bids from interested contractors, and ultimately awarding the work to the lowest responsible bidder.”

MEAF had been extremely successful because of the many donors who have contributed to if for over 30 years that it has been helping students. Two residents made their first appearance in Chase County court on June 26. Jeremy James Cox and Margaret Danielle Fankhauser were arrested in May and charged with crimes that occurred between April 22 and May 8.

Today is the day! The Fair Entry system is now open to take entries for the 2025 Greenwood County Fair! Please feel free to reach out to the office if you have any difficulties with the entry process. We will take paper entries for the Open Classes, for which a perforated copy is available in the 2025 fair book. We also have copies in the office. We're looking forward to seeing everyone's hard work at the fair!
