Magic 98 Saturday at the 70s

Magic 98 Saturday at the 70s Tune in weekly from 7PM-Midnight on 98.1

Every Saturday, Jim Bartlett & Magic 98 open the vault of great 70s music and we play it all, from Woodstock to the Carpenters, Barry White to Barry Manilow, and ABBA to ZZ Top.

I'm a little tired of posting obituaries on this page, but that's the nature of the gig, I guess. I saw Chuck Mangione live when I was in college and I have played a lot of his music on the radio over the years, not just "Feels So Good." (Check out "Bellavia," for example.) //Jim

Chuck Mangione, the jazz flugelhorn and trumpet player whose catchy instrumental 'Feels So Good' made the pop top 10, has died at 84.

I used to bust out "Paranoid" on the show every now and then. No other rock star was quite like Ozzy.

Osbourne's family says he was "surrounded by love" when he died, just weeks after his farewell gig in his hometown of Birmingham.

I was going to do a 50-year time warp talking about the Apollo/Soyuz joint space mission this week in 1975, but this is better. (Hat tip to my friend Jeff for digging it up.) Madison Magazine columnist Doug Moe wrote this week that the movie is getting a reboot, but right now the best way to see it is as an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. //Jim

Here's a 50-year time warp: this week in 1975, Fleetwood Mac, a band that had existed since 1968, released their first album with new members Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. The white Fleetwood Mac album had three big hits: "Over My Head," "Rhiannon," and "Say You Love Me."

I am pretty sure this is a real ad for the album. You can't really blame them for confusing Lindsey and Stevie. Not in 1975 anyway. //Jim

Bobby Sherman, one of the top teen idols of late 1960s and early ’70s, has died after a battle with kidney cancer. He was 81.

Pouring one out tonight for Sly Stone, leader of the multiracial funk rock group Sly and the Family Stone and one of the most intriguing characters in music history, who passed away at the age of 82. He was recently the subject of a Hulu documentary called Sly Lives!, which is definitely worth your time. A link to that, and to his obituary, are in the comments. //Jim

Here's a 50-year time warp: this weekend in 1975, the Rolling Stones played at Milwaukee County Stadium for 54,000 fans. I wrote about it at my personal website; the link is in the comments.

Were you there that day? Do you know any stories about that show? Spill 'em, please. //Jim
