“The SOUL of MARY was the most beautiful soul that GOD ever created… MARY was born a saint, a great saint!”
— St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
The Soul of Mary — The Masterpiece of God’s Creation
Among all the wonders that God has ever created, none shines brighter than the soul of the Blessed Virgin Mary. From the very first moment of her conception, Mary was filled with divine grace and preserved from the stain of original sin. Her purity, humility, and perfect obedience made her the most beautiful reflection of God’s holiness in human form.
St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori calls Mary “the most beautiful soul that God ever created” — and rightly so. Her soul was not only free from sin but was filled with a love so complete that every beat of her heart echoed her “yes” to God. She was born not only to live a holy life but to be the living temple of the Word made flesh.
From her earliest years, Mary’s heart was turned toward heaven. Her humility invited God’s gaze; her silence made room for His Word. In her, God found a heart so pure and trusting that He chose her to bear His Son. And through her “fiat” — “Let it be done to me according to Your word” — salvation entered the world.
Mary’s sanctity was not a reward but a vocation — a divine design from the very beginning. Her soul was formed to be the dwelling place of divine love. Even in suffering, as she stood beneath the Cross, her holiness shone brighter than ever. Her sorrow was united with the sacrifice of her Son, and through her compassion, she became the spiritual mother of all believers.
To contemplate Mary’s soul is to glimpse the perfection of what humanity was meant to be — fully open to God’s love, radiating grace, and living in total harmony with His will.
Let us, therefore, turn to Mary not only as our Queen and Mother but as the model of holiness we strive to imitate. May her soul, that radiant masterpiece of divine grace, inspire us to seek God’s beauty within our own hearts and to live in humble obedience to His call.
Prayer:
O Mary, conceived without sin, most beautiful soul created by God, teach us to love Him as you loved Him, to serve Him as you served Him, and to say “yes” to His will in every moment of our lives. Amen.
