Have you ever wondered what a beautiful golden retriever looks like without his mane? 😭😫😢 🦁

Our poor Duke is recovering from a large hotspot he developed while we were traveling on spring break.

The first 24 hours post treatment were tough as he was VERY uncomfortable and uneasy. 🤕❤️‍🩹

He is doing better now and quickly reverting back to his old ways. 🥹

In the meantime, we’ll have to be patient for his beautiful coat to grow back 🦁

⚠️ Dog parents — this is for you.

Last night, we had a very scary experience with these collagen sticks.

Duke was chewing on one and I immediately noticed it sounded different. It was unusually brittle and breaking apart into hard chunks instead of softening the way collagen sticks typically do. A few minutes later, Duke suddenly began choking. When I opened his mouth, I could see a sizable piece lodged in the back of his throat.

I couldn’t easily grab it but he was coughing aggressively and appeared to be working through it. After the coughing fit subsided, he seemed okay. I gave him some treats and water, assuming anything remaining had gone down.

About 30 minutes later, I decided to check his throat again just because — and to my shock, the chunk was still visibly lodged in the back of his throat!

At that point, I grabbed Laura who was busy with bedtime. With her incredibly steady “mom touch,” she was able to reach in and carefully remove the piece by hand. You’ll see it in the picture.

It was so stressful and scary. PLEASE use extreme caution if you have this product — and honestly with any chew toy. Supervise closely, pay attention to how it’s breaking down, and trust your gut if something feels off.

Third picture is for cuteness only. ❤️🦮🐾
