It will have you wearing crowns of thorns that you don’t deserve.

Being like Jesus.

It will have you still tasting the vinegar they gave you…

And drinking from the cup of forgiveness at the same time.

It will have you speaking love over people that won’t speak to you…

And extending mercy where the rawness of your anger begs to extend hate.

It will allow you to say “I was wrong” to someone who seemingly harbors more wrongness than you ever have.

It will prompt you to reach outward even when the sizzle of betrayal burns inward.

It will enable you to bandage wounds that you did not inflict…

And to apologize for the ones that you did.

It will give you the strength to accept when that apology isn’t accepted..

And the gall to power through when you aren’t either.

It will strengthen you to stand taller, and yet simultaneously accept walking smaller.

It will call you to rise above…and humble you to accept below.

At times it will urge you to reach back…

When you’re still bearing the wounds from pulling the knife from yours.

And it will also display to you the wisdom to be silent…

When you’re called to move forward holding a tongue that wants to lash out.

It will have you tending to the weak…

When you really just want to focus on your week.

And it will have you serving the selfish and granting mercy where it doesn’t belong.

A goal of being like Jesus requires more than a song book and a hymn.

It requires the equipping of the Holy Spirit.

It requires the uprooting of aching soil to replant a garden of love.

It calls you to weighty moves.

And it oft ask of you to forgive the sins of others…

When you remember that He gave His life to forgive yours.
