That’s All Fowkes

That’s All Fowkes Custom woodworking, DIY, and homestead living. Making life a little more simple one day at a time. Hey y’all! We met at Judson University in January 2013.

We are Brandon and Julia Fowkes, the couple behind ‘Fowkes Furnishings’! We love helping others, building and creating new pieces, and we are always up for a new adventure. We started building pieces shortly after we got married in October 2015. We needed to furnish our tiny suburban condo while still on a budget after paying for a wedding. We started going to flea markets, garage sales, people’s

“trash” (not really in their trash but the stuff they put outside to be picked up) and my grandparents barn. Refurbishing and building pieces gives us so much joy and oddly a great stress release! If y’all don’t know us here is a little more about us! It was public relations class and Brandon had the book for the class. I of course being the cheap one didn’t have a book, and decided to just ask Brandon if I could borrow the book for the rest of the year with him. Little did I know that we would end up being best friends for a year, end up dating, getting engaged, and then married! We got married October 24th, 2015 and have been living in our condo almost 3 years now. You may be thinking to yourself, “why or how did these suburban kids become so interested in rustic, wood building, and small town living decor?” Well that is because Julia grew up in a small central Illinois town all her life until she met Brandon. Brandon is from the northwest suburbs of Chicago, but has family in Michigan where he learned to love the simpler things in life. We are just a normal couple doing something we love. Building and designing gives us so much joy to see other people so happy. Our heaven on earth is a garage full of tools, old barnwood, and a piece of furniture that has no life. We give furniture pieces life again and another chance. We don’t like to throw away things! If you can’t tell we are kind of like the Chip and Joanna Gaines of Chicago! We can’t wait to meet you and discuss your next piece of furniture! If you would like to meet up and talk about next steps please check out the contact us and we will get started from there! Thank you for visiting our page and considering us to help make a new piece, refurbish an old piece, or even just meet up to become new friends! Can’t wait to meet y’all! Brandon and Julia

Barn door addition ✅

We got tired of our garage door hitting the basement door so Brandon decided to add a soft close barn door so that the kids can easily open and close.

This veggie lasagna was soooo easy to make and packed with nutrients! Kids didn’t even know how much vegetables they were getting per bite. Make your lasagna noodles from scratch for an extra pow of flavor!

If you saw our stories middle of January you noticed we made homemade butter (reel on that later to come) so we saved the buttermilk from the butter and turned that into buttermilk ranch!

This is the easiest and yummiest ranch we’ve tasted to date!

Rainy foggy days calls for some homemade peanut butter chocolate chip banana bread! Even better when you make your own peanut butter (I’ll post about this later)

• 2-3 Bananas, super ripe
• 1/4 cup Peanut butter, smooth natural
• 1 1/4 cup Oats, instant or quick cooking
• 1/2 tsp Baking powder
• 1/2 cup Chocolate chips
• 1/2 tsp Salt
• 1 tsp Vanilla extract

Mash the bananas then add dry ingredients followed by your liquids. Pour your mixture into a greased bread loaf pan. Top your mixture with a handful of chocolate chips. Bake at 350 for 25-28 mins. Let cool before serving!

Did you know making your own chicken broth is one of the most simple things to do and no preservatives or added gunk!

Ingredients:
Whole chicken bones with meat (I like to make a roasted chicken for dinner and save the body to boil)
Bay leaves
Celery
Onions
Carrots
Salt and pepper for taste
Simmer it all for about 4-5 hours or until you see the richness of the broth appear
Drain your broth in a glass jar or use right away for homemade chicken noodle soup!
