Can I be honest with you about something as a producer?

I love making tracks (the music part). That’s the fun part for me.

But if you ask me what actually makes a song good — it’s the vocal. Every time.

A great vocal on a mediocre track still moves people. A great track with a weak vocal goes nowhere.

So when I’m in a session, my whole job is to disappear behind whoever’s singing. Get the best, most honest take out of them, then build a world around it.

That’s the entire premise of my monthly program.

If someone said, "what's your specialty...?" I think at the end of the day it's vocal production. Layers, harmonies, stacks...it's all so fun for me and I think what takes a song to the next level. I just heard today that the music video for this song is coming out really soon. Def check out Celeste if you haven't.

If verse one sounds exactly like verse two...you doing it wrong. To make the song engaging you have to make each section unique. What ways can you either expand an idea or simply an idea?

This was shot at my old studio but love it all the same. Chris has a "sound." I mean all artists do. The goal of the producer should be to enhance and help the artist stay true to that sound, but on another level. The collection of songs Chris and I are working on now are really amazing. I can't wait to share more.

Verse 2 (V2) is the perfect place to switch things up. And if you want to amplify the intimacy of a vocal just kill the reverb. Then when things come back in on the next chorus it will be this beautiful contrast!
