We have a pope, and for the first time, he’s an American. Robert Prevost, 69, a Chicago native, was selected to succeed Pope Francis. Prevost has taken the name of Pope Leo XIV. The new pope will lead the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics. He was head of the Vatican office that was responsible for vetting the nominations of bishops.

Habemus Papam – we have a pope. White smoke arose today from the Sistine Chapel in Rome, indicating that the College of Cardinals has selected a successor to Pope Frances after three ballots. The official announcement should come in a few minutes.
