We are saddened to share that Peter Davis, founder of Villon Films, passed away on December 1, 2025, at his home in Vancouver. He was 92. Over six decades, Peter wrote, produced, and directed more than 70 documentaries that aired on networks around the world.
Driven by a commitment to justice, Peter became one of the most recognized documentary voices of the anti-apartheid movement, creating films like Remember Mandela!, Generations of Resistance, and In Darkest Hollywood, while amassing an archive of footage that documents South Africa's struggle for human rights from the early 1900s forward.
But his curiosity was wide. He made films about Johnny Cash, the Jewish experience in the Catskills, and women fighting AIDS in Zimbabwe. If a story needed telling, Peter found a way to tell it.
