Over three years since the fires and Lahaina feels like a ghost town . So many memories here it’s strange to sit with the silence of it all . I remember being here during the covid shutdown. Sitting under the banyan tree by myself with no one else around . You can walk front street now , the stone and concrete skeletons of a few buildings including the courthouse still remain . Its time to bring back Front Street.

Last night Kīlauea was erupting. I was up at the summit of Haleakalā for the Perseid meteor shower when the Milky Way rose over it, and a scientist driving up to the observatory lit the road perfectly on his way up. It was the first time I’ve ever seen Kilauea erupting from the summit. Such a magacal night.
