With heavy hearts, we share the passing of one of our own. 💔

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gary Blaylock Sr a great man, a Major League Baseball player and coach, and a proud son of the Bootheel.

Gary passed away peacefully at his home in Clarkton on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the remarkable age of 94 years, 3 months, and 27 days.

His life was one marked by dedication, discipline, and a love for the game that carried him far beyond our small corner of the world, yet he never forgot where he came from.

Gary’s legacy reaches well beyond baseball. He was a husband, father, mentor, and friend whose impact will be felt for generations.

He represented the Bootheel with pride, humility, and integrity, showing what was possible with hard work and heart.

We all can agree that the City Of Malden Missouri needs to invest in this new Street department snow truck, so we don't have to deal with these horrible roads next time it snows.

Malden can learn something from this...

Sikeston street department- Hi everyone — Let’s talk about the snowplow “windrows” (the ridge of snow left at the end of driveways after a plow passes). Windrows at driveway entrances are frustrating — we get it. Unfortunately, they’re an unavoidable part of plowing, and the City doesn’t have the staff and equipment to go back and clear every driveway opening. Doing that would prevent us from ever getting all the streets plowed adequately. Our crews are focused on keeping roads safe and passable citywide. Private property owners and tenants are responsible for opening up the end of their driveway if desired. If you can help a neighbor in need, please do so; we know not everyone is physically able to move snow. Thanks for your patience and please travel carefully.

There are some streets and neighborhoods that are not on the list that were plowed and then entire neighborhoods where they were not touched 🤔

City Of Malden Missouri should honestly be ashamed of how these side streets were handled after this snow.

It would have literally taken ONE pass down each street to make a HUGE difference for residents. One. Pass.

As it is right now, when I finally make it out of my driveway, I’d be stuck sideways in the middle of the road with nowhere to go.

That’s not safe.
That’s not acceptable.

This is ridiculous and it needs to be addressed.

Clearing parking lots at businesses is all fine and dandy, but you’ve got to be able to make it there first.
(yes I know that companies hire contractors to come clear their parking lots I am stating that the city of Malden has the same kind of tools to go out and make one simple pass, JUST ONE and that would make the difference in the world needed to take to make the roads better today.)

We deserve better.
We pay taxes.
We live here.

LET’S DO BETTER FOR THE CITIZENS OF MALDEN.
