ANNOUNCEMENT: Glorious Alone Productions selected Maya Rose Dittloff’s DOGWOOD for its MONA Award in the upcoming South Dakota Film Festival (SDFF).

Dittloff is a promising, young, Native American filmmaker. After much consideration, our review team felt this film held special relevance to the SDFF community. The short is a controversial treatment about the plight of Native American women who regularly face domestic violence. We invited Dani J McQuillen to say a few words about the film’s basic theme. Ms. Dittloff won’t be able to attend the showing, but we intend to make available a pre-recorded message to share from her. DOGWOOD will screen on Saturday, September 17th at approximately 2:30pm.

We chose the name of the award: The MONA, to honor Monica Bercier Wickre who went missing in Aberdeen in 1993.

Are you a fan of film? And/or injustice? Glorious Alone Productions is interested in recruiting a "watch party" team to serve as a focus group for various film festival entries we evaluate. Your input will guide our decision-making. All that is required is your time. Most of the films are shorts (less than 30 minutes). So, maybe an hour of your time. Message us with interest.

The South Dakota Film Festival is a long-running, high quality film festival that has earned the distinction of being one of the Top 100 film festivals (out of 10K+ festivals) on FilmFreeway. The festival has a solid reputation for outstanding hospitality. With over 16 years to its credit, the festival has earned nearly 100 five-star reviews from filmmakers, patrons, and its fan base.

I had a meeting last week with the festival management to explore whether Glorious Alone Productions (GAP) could possibly offer one of its awards to a filmmaker in the festival. To my delight, what they offered was incredible. Not only will I be able to award a filmmaker one of my awards, I can invite filmmakers from around the world to submit for the award. I will then choose a winner among them to screen at the festival. This is a fantastic opportunity and a major maturity milestone for GAP.

I’m honored and excited about this next, big step for our filmmakers.

After a decade of holding film competitions over a breathtaking (and mostly sleepless) 54-hour weekend, the 54 Film Festival has expanded its mission to now include a longer timed movie-making option.

This year, the festival is introducing its 5+4 option where filmmakers can take 5 weekdays and 4 weekend days for a total of 9 days to create original films. This will enable more time for scriptwriting, shooting, general production, and post-edit. In short, there is more time to polish the quality of the film.

Female Filmmakers can look forward to two opportunities to earn PRISCILLA AWARD cash prizes from Glorious Alone Productions. We are backing both award competitions this year.

Early registration ends tomorrow, December 31.

The Dakota Independent Film Festival was terrific. We enjoyed all the films and the camaraderie of this first-time event. We were especially pleased to award the SPIRIT of SOLAX prize to Maya Rose Dittloff.

The Dakota Independent Film Festival was held in Sioux Falls at the spectacular State Theatre, October 9-10.
