In 1892, teenage composer Charles Ives - son of a U.S. Army bandleader - composed "Variations on America" for organ in celebration of the Fourth of July. Based on the melody "My Country, 'Tis of Thee," this work has been performed by every kind of ensemble, including this new setting for flute orchestra (piccolo, flutes, alto flutes, bass flutes, and contrabass flute).
Celebrating all American composers today who have shaped the musical landscape of our nation!
