Light in the Attic is proud to present Nancy Sinatra’s 1967 album, Movin’ With Nancy. This definitive new edition and first ever vinyl re-release celebrates Nancy at the peak of her 1960s cool.

Movin’ With Nancy is one of the most ambitious creative projects in Nancy Sinatra’s career. The hour long, 1967 television special and accompanying soundtrack album capture the creative, groovy, and beautiful times of the 1960s.

The project was funded by RC Cola, but this was no cash in. It was a passion project for Nancy, who asked her dad, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and other family and friends to be in the movie. She also used her own cars, clothes, house and did her own make-up. A truly DIY production.

The album features Frank Sinatra performing “Younger Than Springtime” and Dean Martin dueting with Nancy on “Things.” Producer Lee Hazlewood duets with Nancy on “Some Velvet Morning” and “Jackson,” he also contributes the songs “I Gotta Get Out Of This Town,” “Friday’s Child,” “This Town” and “See The Little Children.” The bonus tracks include the never before heard outtake, “It’s Such A Pretty World Today (Movin’ Version)”, two unreleased pieces of music featured in the film and the incredibly catchy commercial, “RC Cola (It’s A Mad Mad Cola).”

We’re heartbroken to share the news that multi-talented Seattle vocalist, percussionist and songwriter Kenny Hill recently passed away. Kenny was an integral part of the band Robbie Hill’s Family Affair, along with Light in the Attic’s ‘Wheedle’s Groove’ series which documented Seattle’s soul and funk scene during the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s — thanks to DJ Supreme La Rock.

As a youngster, Kenny worked at his family’s restaurant Hills Brothers BBQ in Seattle, alongside his brothers Robbie and Will and cousin Zebdee. In 1971, the Hill brothers and Zebedee would form Robbie Hill’s Family Affair with vocalist Bernadette Bascom, bassist Danny Hays, guitarist Phil Martindale, and saxophonist William Hopkins, amongst others. Their tune “I Just Want To Be (Like Myself)” became a local hit, topping the charts at KYAC for three consecutive weeks, while the band would open for national touring bands including Tower of Power and Curtis Mayfield, and later back the Main Ingredient on the Dinah Shore Show. The track “Don’t Give Up,” masterfully composed by Kenny and recorded at RCA Studios in Los Angeles in January 1975 sat unreleased for decades until it saw the light of day in 2013 (Thanks to Rob Santos). It’s a track that we often return to... both inspiring and heavy, the song remains a spiritual soul epic. Take a listen and remember Kenny’s voice and music.

Kenny, we’ll miss you, rest in peace.

We’re sending a big hug to Kenny’s friends and loved ones.

Kenny’s family set up a GoFundMe, asking for support for the family. Every bit helps if you’re able to contribute.

Thinkin’ about the one and only Lou Reed on his birthday 💛

In this 1978 clip from Midnight Special, hosted by Flo and Eddie (aka Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan) of The Turtles and Frank Zappa’s band, Lou touches the nuanced relationship between himself and Lou Reed, the character and writer/experiencer of “Walk On the Wild Side.” Would Lou Reed eat at Denny’s? What kind of lighter would he carry? What’s his point of view? It’s the type of moment that re-contextualizes all of the interviews and songs that have come before….

For more of “Lou’s Views,” the full interview clip is available in our linkinbio.
