As my grandmother would say....."the ox is in the ditch" at the Clay Co Senior Center. We will have quart bags of freezer corn on Tuesday. The cost is $6 quart. If you would like to get ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas call us to reserve your bags. 598-5754.

For over a year, Senior Centers across Kentucky were told by the State of Kentucky and The CVADD to clear waiting lists and to provide meals to every needy elderly person in their district. We were hesitant to do so because we knew we had a budget that we had to stick by, but we were assured that funding was available and we needed to work towards helping the elderly in Kentucky. Our new budget year started July 1st and we were once again assured funding was available and all seniors would be able to keep their meals. Centers added 100’s of new needy elderly clients that they were helping daily, but by mid-September all centers in the state received a memo that all meals provided from July to present were not getting paid for, but rather, all centers had to use the money they had from their previous budgets. The previous budgets could not support the 4x amount of elderly people that were added in the last year by instruction of the State of Kentucky and the CVADD. This has caused many Senior Centers’ budgets to be lacking and depleted causing us to cut between 90% and 100% of all home delivered meal clients. The Senior Centers are not at fault and we will continue daily to fight for the elderly of our communities. Every person high and low needs to remember “the elderly of today will be us tomorrow”. If it was your parent, grandparent, or family member, what would you do to make sure they had the care they need?

Funding at senior centers throughout Kentucky are being cut. This includes programs that some older Kentuckians said are vital to their well-being, including meals on wheels.

People have always said that the youth of today is tomorrow’s future, and we always like to add that “the older people of today will be us tomorrow”. We have seen through many years of service to the elderly just how quickly time flies. We teach the youth of today to be great leaders in the future, but we never warn them about what time will bring. Growing older isn’t always picture perfect, but we hope to bring light and joy to each elderly person in our county for as long as possible. We thank 1CC for noticing the importance of this program and the seniors in our community.

1 Clay County was proud to present a gift to the Clay County Senior Citizens Center (Carmen Webb Roberts, Director) helping ensure that vital services for our elderly continue strong. This contribution will support meals for up to 75 senior citizens, three days a week — providing not just nourishment, but also connection, care, and community.

For more than 50 years, the Clay County Senior Citizens Center has been a cornerstone in our community — offering home-delivered and congregate meals, transportation, personal care, homemaker services, health promotion, and more. Their mission is simple but powerful: to meet the needs of our elderly citizens, whatever they may be, and to bring extraordinary experiences through food, friendship, and care.
