A New Jersey state trooper who had guarded the governor is believed to have fatally shot a man and a woman before killing himself, people familiar with the investigation said.

The press release below ⬇️ is from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office


Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée Robeson, Chief of Detectives Timothy Drew, and Franklin Township Police Chief Timothy Snyder announced that an apparent double homicide occurred in the Pittstown section of Franklin Township.

On August 2, 2025, at approximately 12:22 p.m., Franklin Township police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting an unconscious female with apparent physical trauma at a residence on
Upper Kingtown Road in the Pittstown section of Franklin Township, Hunterdon County.

Upon arrival, officers observed two deceased individuals, who exhibited apparent gunshot wounds in what investigators believe was a targeted act. Investigators identified the victims as
Lauren Semanchik, 33, of Pittstown, and Tyler Webb, 29, of Forked River.

The case is under active investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, and nothing suggests any danger to the public.
The following additional agencies assisted in the response and investigation: Franklin Township Police Department, Clinton Township Police, NJ, Town of Clinton Police Department, Morris County Sheriff's Office’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Quakertown Fire Company, Hunterdon County Office of Emergency Management, and Hunterdon County Sheriff's Office.

This investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
