When I started Living the Brooklyn Way, I wanted to share my journey as a single mom raising a child with autism—the highs, the lows, and all the real moments in between. I never imagined how many of you would listen, connect, and remind me that I’m not walking this road alone.

Your support means more than I can put into words. Every message, every listen, every share tells me that these stories matter—not just mine, but ours as a community.

Today my landlord told me I needed to make the noise from Brooklyns self-injurious behaviors stop. I had sent this letter to my neighbor last week. She doesn’t care because her son “is autistic and doesn’t act like this. It’s bad parenting”. She calls and texts my landlord everytime my kids make any kind of noise. I either need a housing or disability lawyer or I need to move.

Back in the ER with Brooklyn 💔 this time required EMTs, fire and police. So heartbreaking seeing Brooklyn hurt herself and not know how to help. My mama heart is so broken. Manchester EMTs Ally & Carolyn were absolutely amazing and the staff at Eliot Hospital are just as amazing. Hoping for some sort of help and relief at this point. Anything will help. Even a bump on the neurology, ENT, psych, and developmental pediatrician waitlists would be something. Waiting several months for a doctors appointment is so insane when we are going through this level of chaos and pain. Please pray for my girl and for my strength because my soul and spirit are so broken at this point and help isn’t coming fast enough.

For those of you who are neighbors of families living with autism, don’t be like my neighbor! While my daughter is banging her head off the floor, and I’m trying to block it, she’s screaming through the walls that my kid needs to “knock it off” and that it’s just “bad parenting” because I “let my kids do whatever they want” and her son is “autistic and doesn’t act this way”. If someone else could inform her autism is a SPECTRUM and her son is 20 something and high functioning and I’m literally doing the best I can while I hang on by a thread and do what I can to prevent Brooklyn from getting a concussion. 🫠

Also, she’s never come and talk to me. I’ve addressed her after she addressed my 11 year old and after I heard her yelling through the floor. We are adults. We can have difficult conversations. We’ve also lived in the same building for almost two years.

Life update: spent all day in the ER with Brooklyn because she broke out into hives, a fever and had a swollen/itchy throat and face….after 5 different ear infections in the last year…and 5 different prescriptions for amoxicillin….shes officially now allergic to amoxicillin. Thank you universe! 🙄 And after being in pain/itchy, she started SIBing again and split her forehead open. Enjoying this birthday week staycation with 2 more medical issues! 👌🏼🤸‍♀️😎🫠😵‍💫😭🙄
