The Mangum Seniors of 2024 are selling pumpkins as a fundraiser. Be sure and get yours today and decorate for Fall. Where do you go to get a delicious cup of hot or iced coffee in Mangum? The Soggy Llama Coffee Co. at 100 S. Louis Tittle of course. Kevin Fogerson, seen here, greeted first time customer Mangum Star editor Mike Bush and his dog BooBear with a smile and explained the menu and the many offerings they have. Bush got a Banana Foster iced coffee, and BooBear got a Pup Cup. The Soggy Llama drive-thru also has teas, smoothies and other great drinks. Stop by and tell them BooBear sent you!

Playing on the scout teams going head up with the Varsity starters is . . . a right of passage of sorts for a young man. To rephrase it . . . Every varsity starter took his turn running the opposing teams' formations and assignments as seen on game films each week.
Every starter was once a scout teamer.

Weeks preparing game plans against superstars manifests to corresponding jersey number worn by a scout teamer. The rabid starters on defense, having seen the films and been given all the bewares of what they are looking for, know full well where the practice play will go.

The expectation for the scout teamer is to dig deep and aggressively try to mimicly preview what might happen on Friday nights.
The expectation for the starters is to get to the ball first and win the play.

It is extremely valuable for gaining confidence and trust in teammates on defense.

Considering that size, speed and maturity levels often differ greatly, it can look like video game football and only one team has all the cheat codes.

To combat that from happening, coach Powers steps in to play QB for the scout team here. When you carry a youthful spry, you must take advantage of that. There are so many advantages to this: he can control tempo of play calls, competently put players in motion, audible flips or reset players, simulate hard snap counts, maintain timing of passes, dictate play speeds, mindful for player safety, help prevent injury, throw accurately and ultimately hands on give his defensive coordinator, Tommy Pride the best look he can give him.
Plus, it makes for better team chemistry and practices are more fun when your leader lines up with you and plays the game.

This was maybe the 10th rep of this particular drill. This was after school middle of the last week. It was 108°
There were 5 groups of 2v1. I try to look in on the linemen first anytime I go to practice or a game. The play of the bigs upfront will determine the 2023 season. So, i try to give as much attention to this bunch as i can. It is the group that is blamed first for failures and the last credited in times of success. By design of this wonderful game, the scope of this position is to aggressively impose your will in close quarter hand to hand combat with very few restrictions and you will need a minimum of five but we really need 12.
This was group 4. I took their picture because even when coach Powers was not looking, they were going full boar like 3 buddies having fun simultaneously morphing into a version of the Hulk only stopped by the whistle. Iron sharpens Iron.
