While I've been living away from Massena for almost 6 years now. This sounds like a fantastic idea. I can give specific examples of venues over here in VT where I live where these types of venues are successful,
They draw in some big names for more intimate shows and it draws the crowds.
Champlain valley exposition has the fairgrounds grand stand that can hold a little over 5,000 people and has brought each summer names like Nelly, Tyler Hubbard, Jeff Dunham, Counting Crows Gin blossoms, Bush Live and Our lady peace, each year they book some big names old and new and it always draws crowds from all over.
I door venues that do really well are the Flynn theater it has 1453 seats and has booked big names like Kevin James, Chid D'liah, Kip Moore they bring traveling Broadway shows and children's entertainment along with local theater use.
Then there is Higher ground that is a warehouse style venue that hosts bands and music festivals.
None of this is put of the realm of possibilities. And as for who's paying for it... It's not the town or the village paying for these names to come in. Once a venue is established the ticket sales are what cover the costs of the acts that are brought in.
For the comments saying Massena needs business not music.... This would bring business! You need more lodging to accommodate people traveling in, more businesses would open to appeal to the influx of people traveling and more food options and bars would open. It just depends on what residents are willing to support.
Honestly the majority of the residents are the reason Massena has declined over the years, businesses have come and tried to be successful or plant roots, people have come with ideas for tourism and grow the economy but instead you all coral together and shoot things down. This behavior hinders the growth and pushes what youth you have left and leaves behind what you have now. No town is without it's drug problems and poverty, but if you want businesses to come or even open you have to support them even if they are ideas. Helping ideas like this get off the ground are what could brings jobs, people and money into a town that desperately needs it.
That's just my 2 cents

Carmela Mayette Ty for being the most informed and knowing how things actually work. I am being attacked Online By Local Residents so what you are saying is the complete truth, I am almost ready to say to hell with Massena, because of some of the communities response, I do not need this venue, I was under the impression it would be an addition to the areas economy and something the North Country Residents Would Cherish. I have Not Given Up On Massena Yet, but the thoughts are beginning to say to Me why help this community? Why Invest in their economy. There are countless Jerks in Massena that do not have a clue about opening or running a business but they sure know how to spew untruths and Stupidity! If you want this venue I would advise the community to silence these idiots for us. I am not going to name anyone but if you read through the comments you will find at least one of them. I was hoping to do something good for this Town (Massena, NY) and the North Country residents but I am beginning to look elsewhere To establish My Business Because Of The Online Harassments and BS! This Town is On Its Way Out Because of undereducated Idiots like you will find in these comments and in Massena NY.
