It’s hard to believe this was 17 years ago!!! What a crazy night this was!
Where were you during the 2008 MHK tornado?!
Manhattan, KS EF4 – June 11, 2008!
Forty-one tornadoes occurred across five states on this day in 2008. In northeast Kansas, one long-lived supercell produced the deadly Chapman EF3 before moving on and generating the strongest tornado of the day in Riley County.
The Manhattan tornado tracked 8.64 miles and reached a width of 440 yards. EF4 damage was found in the Miller Ranch area, where 15 well-built homes were completely destroyed. The tornado later moved onto the Kansas State University campus, where damage was estimated at approximately $37 million.
Despite the destruction across homes, businesses, Lee Elementary School, and KSU, no injuries or fatalities were reported with this EF4.
