Today’s Supreme Court decision to allow the Trump administration to dismantle the Department of Education is an attack on every student and teacher who depends on public education as a pathway to equity.

For q***r students and educators, this is more than a bureaucratic change—it threatens our safety, our visibility, and our right to exist openly in schools.

The Department of Education has been one of the few federal bodies enforcing civil rights protections in schools. Its elimination means fewer investigations into LGBTQ+ discrimination, loss of protections for trans and nonbinary students, and a chilling effect on inclusive teaching. This decision emboldens those who want to erase us entirely from classrooms and sends a clear message: q***r lives, histories, and rights are expendable.

But let me be clear: we are not expendable.

We are educators who show up every day because q***r students deserve to feel safe, seen, and celebrated. We will keep teaching, advocating, and fighting for schools where every student can be their authentic self.

This is not the end of our story—it is a call to action.
