🍂 A message from Kim Michele Richardson, bestselling author of THE BOOK WOMAN OF TROUBLESOME CREEK:

I’m thrilled to finally share the cover of my new, upcoming children’s picture book My Kentucky Moonlight School.

This work was such a special project - one that is very dear to my heart. My Kentucky Moonlight School is the first book of its kind in children’s literature that showcases the unique and powerful Kentucky schools through the eyes of an Appalachia child named Jewel. The advance from the book was donated to Kentucky teachers to pay homage to educators.

It honors the legacy of Cora Wilson Stewart, the founder of the Kentucky Moonlight schools and prolific educator, whom as some know I’d found forgotten and buried without a proper marker in a small North Carolina cemetery. After Mister and I purchased Cora a grave marker befitting her extraordinary accomplishments, I felt moved to spread the legacy of her unique literacy phenomenon – a movement that would grow and go on to impact millions across the United States.

Cora unstintingly fought a war without the loss of human blood, without the click of a gun or the firing of a cannon—a war fought with the book and the pen—and I pray these dear words and gorgeous illustrations reach her in the stars. My Kentucky Moonlight School is on sale August 11, 2026, published by Norton Young Readers. Preorders now available. Thank you, dear friends!
