3 people were "killed" after being hit by a covered van on the Dhaka-Barisal highway

Madaripur Representative:
Three people were killed and one injured in a collision between a van and a covered van on the Dhaka-Barisal highway in Tantibari area of Madaripur Sadar Upazila.

The accident happened around 11 am on Tuesday.

According to eyewitnesses, a covered van going from Dhaka towards Barisal hit a passenger van coming from the broken bridge area. 2 passengers of the van were killed on the spot and 2 others were seriously injured.
Another person later died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Eyewitness Mithu Darji said that the covered van pushed the van and left the spot quickly. Later local people rescued the injured.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madaripur Sadar Police Station Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the truth of the incident and said,The police were sent to the spot after receiving the information. The police could not immediately confirm the identity of the victims. The incident will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.

লক্ষ্মীপুরে অনিয়মের প্রতিবাদে ঝাড়ুমিছিল ও সড়ক অবরোধ

লক্ষ্মীপুর সদর উপজেলার বটতলী থেকে দত্তপাড়া পর্যন্ত প্রায় সাড়ে চার কিলোমিটার সড়ক সংস্কারের নামে অনিয়মের অভিযোগে ঝাড়ুমিছিল করা হয়েছে। এসময় আন্দোলনকারীরা প্রায় ৩ ঘন্টা ঢাকা-লক্ষ্মীপুর আঞ্চলিক মহাসড়ক অবরোধ করে। এতে ক্ষিপ্ত হয়ে উঠে সাধারণ যাত্রীরা। একপর্যায়ে যাত্রী ও আন্দোলনকারীদের মধ্যে উত্তেজনা ছড়িয়ে পড়ে।
বৃহস্পতিবার (৮ জানুয়ারি) সকাল থেকে দুপুর পর্যন্ত সদর উপজেলার বটতলি এলাকায় এ ঘটনা ঘটে। এসময় ঢাকা, চটগ্রাম, কুমিল্লা, ফেনী, নোয়াখালী, ভোলা, বরিশালসহ বিভিন্ন জেলাগামী যাত্রীবাহী বাস আটকা পড়ে।
