First catch of my first Kansas Bass Tournament was NOT a bass 🤦‍♂️

First official “Kansas” Tournament. Decided last minute why not. So here’s the recap.

First time on Lake Perry. I did practice one day before but only caught crappie and anything BUT bass so I decided to abandon the 89 degree water and hit the dam tournament morning.

I started the tournament fishing mid-depth flats off the dam that stood out from my map recon. That wasn’t working so I worked a chatterbait along the dam. BAM - a 28 inch CARP. That was fun, but not during a bass tournament. The wind started to pick up so I decided to continue working the rip rap back to the marina.

Well rock wasn’t working and there wasn’t much in terms of shade from lay downs so I decided to flip some boat docks. I caught all 3 of my bass and missed what would’ve been my 4th in 2 slips. Fished the marina for a couple hours and got my 3rd with 10 minutes left. Not a great finish but if we’re going to complete this puzzle better get out there and start working on it.

I’m not too upset with the 9th place finish. I fished mostly clean and thanks to the Trokar Pro-V Flip I had all the confidence wrestling the 3 that came on. Spot lock was also huge for me. I fished out of the Old Town Fishing 120 PRO for this trip and I love the extra space especially for tournaments. The new Crush City Hedgehog was what caught all of them. It’s a little more durable than a baby brush hog and the same size.

I’ll push a video of this tournament soon because although it was only 3 bass, I did catch some good drum, crappie, catfish and that big carp. Crazy how a normally great day of fishing is terrible when it’s a tournament for bass 😂

Onto the next one at Milford. Most importantly looking to get integrated with this community of hammers out here and get my butt kicked enough to make me better. Good times!

These trips are going to be different.

Mostly unedited. No perfect game plan. No full day to figure it out.

Just me getting off work, heading to a lake I’ve never fished before, and seeing how quickly I can break it down before the sun disappears.

Limited time. Limited information. Make adjustments on the water and find fish.

Tomorrow’s first trip takes me to Pottawatomie State Fishing Lake #1 with about two hours of daylight left.

Can we figure it out before dark?
