Yesterday’s weather created hazardous travel conditions across our region, leading to multiple crashes, stalled vehicles, and cars in the ditch.

The red dots on the photo of the Nicollet County map represent all the vehicles that went into the ditch that local law enforcement officers travelled to, checked on, and, in many cases, gave rides to the occupants, as tow trucks deemed it was not safe to leave city limits.

Unfortunately, one of Nicollet County’s patrol vehicles was struck when a driver failed to slow down and pay attention to conditions. Thankfully, this serves as a serious reminder rather than a tragedy, but it could have been much worse.

Please do your part to keep our roads safe:
• Slow down
• Make sure your lights are on; use your hazard lights
• Move over for emergency vehicles
• Stay alert and aware
• Let someone know when you’re traveling and when you arrive at your destination

Be patient. Be kind. Be a good neighbor. Safe driving is everyone’s responsibility.
