Remember S.T SOAP 🧼 that was very popular in the 80s and 90s right?
This is the story of THE RISE AND FALL OF THE PROMISING INDIGENOUS BRAND

Late Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu’s quality item, S.T Soap, immediately turned into an easily recognized name during the 80s into the 90s, due to its potency, packaging, and rhythmic advert jingle which practically turned into a public hymn, particularly in the South West, which obviously was responsible for the fame and excessive demand in the market by all.

In 1979 Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu popularly known as S.T began what was referred to as S.T Soaps Limited with the amount of 5,000 naira (N5000).
In an interview with L’abe Orun Program, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu said he got N3000 from his father after which he added his own N2000. Before starting S.T Soaps Limited, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was buying Garri from Auchi and reselling it in Lagos. The business kept expanding, S.T Soaps extended from the passageways of his home to raising a cutting-edge processing plant in Ijebu-Mushin, Ogun State. Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu Worked and thrived from his monstrous industrial facility, with huge loads of laborers in his workforce Notwithstanding his small degree of Education, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu understood the significance of commercials on viable showcasing, he contributed a gigantic entirety on being noticed despite the huge amount of money it cost him, the brand’s Jingle on the then Radio. Nigeria and across media houses actually inspires nostalgic musings. By the mid-’90s, the organization grew from the popular S.T Soap to making polythene products having over 1,000 labour force the majority of which were indigenes of Ijebu-Mushin. You’ll definitely remember the S.T soap advert that goes thus:

Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu’s irregular downfall started in October 2004 when the assembly line laborers at his S.T Soaps Limited started to racket for a “staff association” with the excuse that they were being used as a slave in the manufacturing company. Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was purportedly disappointed with the possibility of a staff association inside the premises of his business, he contended that the thought isn’t proper in a sole ownership enterprise, the S.T Soaps Limited staffs who affirmed that they are being abused by the organization’s administration, started a protest by abandoning their tasks. During the dissent, one of the staff of S.T Soaps Limited purportedly damaged a mixing machine worth five million naira. This incensed Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu who welcomed the police to capture the miscreant however on getting to the scene the police terminated irregularly noticeable all around and captured everyone they discovered including non-staffs and outsiders.

One of the locals (a deaf kid) was said to have been hit by a stray bullet. The police contribution made a total pandemonium, the residents were angered, they promised to annihilate the manufacturing plant, S.T Soaps Limited if the arrested indigenes were not delivered from police custody, the old women threatened to protest naked with a left foot sandal and a left earring, realizing the consequences of his actions, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu called for the released of the protesters and everyone arrested at the scene.

Eventually, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu had to give in to the demands of his workers by giving room for a labour union despite the fact that S.T Soaps Limited was a sole ownership enterprise just to allow peace reign. However, in an interview, he claimed that allowing the workers’ association worsened the issue and the employees started feeling high and mighty.

He said they started demanding an increment in salary incessantly and they were wasting the company products unnecessarily. He gave an instant when they would mix soda used in making soap after which they would abandon the mixed soda and request for a meeting with their employer, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu himself. If he couldn’t show up due to one reason or the other, they would refuse to work and waste the mixed soda.

Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu maintained that those usually spearheading such acts were the indigenes of Ijebu-Mushin, he said they had a sense of entitlement since Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu himself wasn’t an indigene of Ijebu-Mushin. To curb the wastage of resources and motivate a smooth flow of activities in the organization, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu sacked about fifty of the indigenous employees encouraging the unethical acts but it only worsened the issue as the whole community was displeased with this particular action.

It took the mediation of the police D.P.O and a well reputable chief of Ijebu-Mushin to suppress the developing unsettling influence, the two players; Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu and the S.T Soaps Limited staffs were called to a roundtable and a mutual ground was reached in the month of November 2004.

However, on Friday, May 13th, 2005, five policemen from the Elewe-Eran police station, Abeokuta, stormed the processing plant, S.T was arrested, one lepper from a nearby town called Baba Oníkèké had implicated him in a kidnapping and ritual case, Baba Baba Oníkèké who was a lepper asserted that Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu routinely purchases human parts from him. Baba Oníkèké insisted that he sold two human eyes to Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu for Two thousand naira. When Baba Oníkèké was told to identify Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu, he couldn’t point out who Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was between him and his managers.

On hearing this, Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu’s first house, second house, and office were scoured by the police, however, nothing was found, the legal dispute ranges for a while yet the case was at last excused by His revered, O.S Moronfolu of the Magisterial district, Chief Magistrate court, Ijebu-Ode on June 7th, 2005 Following these occurrences, unfortunately for him, the ritual allegation case against Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu ruined him. As someone who used to be very popular and prominent on the Ijebu social scene and even beyond, he suddenly went low, while his once thriving and booming soap business, S.T Soap also went under and comatose; which ultimately forced him to leave the scene, and retired into more private and secluded life for years, with nothing virtually heard about him or his whereabouts.

Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu couldn’t recapture his feet, His once-mighty industry, S.T Soaps Limited became history. He went into depression, his life never stays as before. In an interview, he said his greatest mistake in life was employing a larger percentage of Ijebu-Mushin indigenes anytime he had to recruit workers. He maintained that they had a great sense of entitlement and strongly believed that they are the reason he was successful.

Affirming the toll which the ritual allegations had on him and his wave-making and profitable soap business. A case, he believed was maliciously orchestrated by his detractors, at that time but the deed is done. No one heard anything about the great Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu of S.T Soaps Limited again until October 5, 2020, when the news that he kicked the bucket filtered out. The great indigenous industrialist died at the age of 64 following quite a while of engaging an undisclosed ailment.

Alhaji Safiriyu Tiamiyu was survived by many wives, children, grandchildren, with a vast estate. According to family sources, he was laid to rest the same day he died according to Islamic rites.

Mary Olatayo, a 25-year-old lady has been reportedly arrested alongside her accomplice (Chioma Esther Ogbonna) by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for conniving with her friend to sell her 3-week-old baby for N600,000.

The suspects were napped by the police on the 18th of August, 2022 following a complaint lodged by the father of her child at the Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters after the child suddenly disappeared.

The man, who disclosed that he was dating Olatayo when she got pregnant for him said he rented an apartment for her to be staying permanently because of their child.

However, three weeks after she gave birth to their son, she left the apartment with the baby only for him to find her at a hotel, where she allegedly went for ‘hookup’ with another man.

He said he employed every means to find the baby but all proved abortive so he resolved to report the case to the police.

Following her arrest, Olatayo confessed to selling the baby to a buyer in Anambra state for N600k and said she shared it equally with her friend who linked her up with the buyer.

Mustafa Adebayo Balogun (25 August 1947 – 4 August 2022), widely known as kumawu, was a Nigerian police officer, 11th Inspector General of Police from March 2002, but was forced to retire because of widespread charges of corruption in January 2005.

Mustafa Adebayo Balogun
11th Inspector General of Police In office
March 2002 – January 2005
Preceded by Musiliu Smith
Succeeded by Sunday Ehindero
Tafa Balogun was Born 25 August 1947 in Ila Orangun, Nigeria and Died on 4 August 2022 (aged 74)

He attended the University of Lagos, graduating in 1972 with a B.A. (Hons)in Political Science. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1973. While a police officer, he gained a law degree from the University of Ibadan. After working in various positions around the country, he became Principal Staff Officer to former Inspector-General of Police, Muhammadu Gambo, then Deputy Commissioner of Police in Edo State, and then Commissioner of Police first in Delta State and then in Rivers State and Abia State. He was appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police in A.I.G Zone One Kano, the position he held when promoted to Inspector General of Police on 6 March 2002.

In November 2001, as A.I.G., Tafa Balogun reassured reporters that there were provisions to ensure the safety of businessmen in Nigeria through the called Diplomatic Corp and Foreign National Protection Unit.

Mustafa Adebayo Balogun became IGP in March 2002, replacing Musiliu Smith. He was responsible for overall police security during the April 2003 national elections, which were marred by reports of police abuses. In August 2003, Tafa Balogun presented a paper on "Nigeria: Electoral Violence and National Security" in which he advocated improvements such as use of national identity cards, mass education, electoral law reforms, citizens participation in politics, good governance and establishment of a constitutional court.

In December 2003, Tafa Balogun organised extensive security measures across Nigeria to ensure that there were no disturbances during the Commonwealth of Nations summit.

Following various incidents in 2004 where reporters were beaten and their equipment damaged by police men, Tafa Balogun made apologies and promised that those responsible would be punished.

Towards the end of 2004, newspapers published allegations of corruption on a massive scale, asserting that Tafa Balogun had pocketed public money and taken bribes from politicians and criminals. These led to his forced retirement in January 2005.

On 4 April 2005, Tafa Balogun was arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja on charges involving about N13 billion obtained through money laundering, theft and other sources. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission under Nuhu Ribadu brought 70 charges against Tafa Balogun covering the period from 2002 to 2004. He made a plea bargain with the court in exchange for returning much of the property and money. He was sentenced to six months in jail. He was released on 9 February 2006 after serving his sentence, part of it in Abuja National Hospital.

In November 2008 and again in February 2009, the Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, Abdul Ahmed Ningi, asked the Inspector General of Police Mike Okiro, to provide details of the money recovered from Tafa Balogun, a request that he passed on to the EFCC chairman, Mrs Farida Waziri. However, the EFCC stated that they did not have records of the exact properties recovered from Balogun. It was said that some of the houses had been secretly sold to certain individuals at give-away prices.

In April 2009, the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affair invited Tafa Balogun, Mike Okiro and Mrs Farida Waziri to explain how the N16 billion allegedly recovered from Balogun got missing.

He died on 4 August 2022.

Hello LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR. Idi Araba Town Lagos

I was duped today of 90,000 by Lagos State Task force.

I was in front of my office, where I packed my car, off the road, the security of the car refused to work and I called the rewiring engineer to work on the car for me, because it was a Marwa park, and the way they all park their Tricycle choking the car, the rewire asked me to move the car back ward, I did, not even in the road, (at Joke Ayo Bus stop) immediately they saw me move the car (because the were stationed there), they stepped out of their vehicle and dragged me out if the car, I told them that's my office, they refused to listen, I told them I was not obstructing any traffic, or driving on one way that that's the play I always park my car, they refused to listen and dragged the key of the car from me!

One of them drove the car backwards into the road and asked another officer to start recording, then I asked him why? Cos I wasn't even sure of what they were doing.

They distracted me talking to me and they disconnected the security of my car by damaging and tearing it off the compactment! He drove my car the way I have never driven it before, and I asked them where they were taking the car to, they said Alausa, entered their vehicle, and they took me to their office at Bolade Bus stop Oshodi, and their Boss (the head of the team C) Mr Ogar asked me to approach a lady that she will give me ticket to go and pay, I told them I didn't do anything wrong and I have never been arrested by even police before. She was so rude to me and refused to even talk to me, she told me that I will need to pay 130k, I asked her for what? She said it was for driving against traffic, I I was not even driving when they saw me and they were packed there long, looking at me working on the car.
The insult was too much.

Then I asked her what the money was meant for, she said it's a fine, who fined me? She said it was the court, then I said how can I be fined without appearing in the court? I asked to see the judge who fined me and she got furious and started her insult again.

She told me to pay 100k and I was begging her to tell me the office of the man so I can go and meet him to tell me why I was arrested, she asked me to go in search of Mr Ogar, I did and I could not find any of them and their team members, even one of the who is an Alhaji, who happened to be among them! I begged that I want to see the judge, they said the judge had already given me a fine, then I asked them to give me their account, they said I should go and use POS to cash and bring cash for them, I said why? Is Lagos State government not having any account to pay into? She told me that was the only process , I went to the POS lady(inside their compound) Glory by name who asked me to do transfer into her account, I did, and I took the money to the Lady Mr Ogar, the team leader introduced me to; to discuss with me. I ended up begging her to take 90k, immediately they saw that I have brought the money, all the team leaders came out and showed their faces, even the Alhaji who was one of their team leaders came out to witness the money given to her! She took me to Mr Ogar and he (stylishly) told me not to tell anyone or go on social media about it, I told him I won't! He asked me to go and see the lady and give her the money and I did, I asked for a receipt, she wrote me a note and asked me to go to Alausa behind ShopRite, .

When she opened her big black bag to put the money into it, the money I saw in that Bag must be around 3-4million Naira that they have collected from people! This got me thinking and still confused about the Judge who fined me without asking to see me!

I went to Alausa and did some short videos recording, the asked for my phone and asked me to open it, they deleted the videos unknown to them, I can retrieve it. I have a copy of the reciept she gave to me to go to Alausa, and I have evidence of the POS lady's account whom I transferred 100k to so I could pay the fine.

When was given the car, they have damaged my car key, my AC stopped working, my Car Battery had been changed to a hold one cos the one there is still very new. Even officers in the Yard told me that Mr Ogar and his teams (Team C) are bad and that's the way they behaves. They gave me about three isntances!

Even Mr Ogar's personal driver told me I should be careful with him because he is not a good man!

This got me angry and I think these people are thieves! Help me let this get to the appropriate authority.

The Governor is trying but these people are destroying the legacy and extorting innocent people like me. 3-4million in a day? Multiply by 7 days and multiply by 30days? Look at the whole amount going into the wrong hand? I do not want this to go on social media because it may spoil the image of our country at this time that we need the youths to trust us!

I want this people to be brought to book.

I am ready to testify and bring out all available evidence and also call on witneses against them! Cos I wonder why I was charged to court without my presence in the court!
