How did I adopt the most dramatic, annoying little demolition expert on earth? 😭🦜

He’s standing there with one foot up like he just got caught mid-crime, surrounded by evidence, and somehow still looks like I’m the problem. I don’t even know if he’s fixing the door, threatening the door, or filing a complaint with the door. 😂
What is he even doing?

I’m honestly heartbroken and frustrated for my Quaker, Gizmo. 😢🦜

I bought him almost 5 years ago thinking he was a young bird, but after multiple vet visits, several exotic vets now believe he was probably much older than the paperwork claimed — possibly a middle-aged breeder bird who had already been through a lot before I ever met him. He came to me scared, missing his tail, cage-aggressive, and clearly carrying baggage, but I loved him anyway.

For the last couple of years, we’ve been battling feather plucking and now self-mutilation. This spring has been the worst yet. He has pulled out tail feathers, damaged flight feathers, opened wounds, and his balance is now off enough that the vet is worried about falls. He’s on medication now, and the vet says he’s otherwise healthy, which somehow makes this even more upsetting because physically he should be okay. 😭

I just noticed something wrong with my lineolated parakeet’s preen gland while she was sitting with me, and now I’m officially worried. 😟🐦It definitely doesn’t look normal to me, and I don’t want to brush it off if this could be blocked, irritated, infected, or painful for her. Birds hide problems so well that I feel like once you actually notice something, it’s better to take it seriously.

I’m planning to call an avian vet, but has anyone seen a preen gland look like this before? 🩺💛

Vet update: we took her in today after seeing that strange orange oily stuff in her droppings. 😟🦜
She was not exactly thrilled about being wrapped up like a tiny angry burrito, but at least she’s being checked by people who know what they’re doing. I’m relieved we didn’t just “wait and see,” because with birds, weird p**p changes can feel scary fast.

Has anyone else had their parrot suddenly show oily or unusual droppings and need a vet check? 🩺💛

I’ve seen a lot of weird bird p**p in my life, but this orange oily-looking stuff is a first. 😳🦜

This is from our red-lored Amazon, estimated around 26 years old. She eats like an absolute machine and has always had huge droppings, but this orange oil just started showing up over the last couple of days. We already emailed our avian vet and are hoping to hear back ASAP, especially since it’s Sunday.
She was underweight and on poor food before coming to us, but she’s now a healthy weight and eating a proper mix of pellets, dried greens/veggies, fresh chop, and her usual blend. Nothing about this looks normal to me, and I’m honestly stumped.

Has anyone ever seen orange oily droplets in parrot p**p before? 🟠💩

She put on that little nurse hat and suddenly the whole house has to respect her medical authority. My dad is acting like she just graduated top of her class, and honestly… look at that serious little face. She does look ready to check vitals, judge your life choices, and prescribe extra millet for emotional healing. 😂🩺

Would you trust Nurse Birb to take care of you?

I never knew my bird secretly loved little head scratches this much. 😭🐦One tiny touch and suddenly they’re leaning in like they’ve been waiting their whole life for spa day. I thought I had a normal bird, but apparently I have a tiny feathered royalty who expects gentle scritches on demand now. 😂

Does your bird do this too, or did mine just discover a new obsession?

Marty chose chaos at the vet and immediately found out there are consequences. 😭🐦
One little bite later and now he’s sitting in the “exotics bin” looking like he’s waiting for bail money. I’m honestly tempted to show this photo to the rest of the flock as a warning, especially the rescue macaw who already thinks every vet visit is a full-blown hostage situation. 😂All jokes aside, vet visits can be so stressful for scared birds, and I really want to keep everyone safe without breaking their trust.

How do you help a nervous bird feel safer at the vet while still preventing bites? 🩺💛

Can someone explain budgie logic to me? 😂🦜

Mine act like they don’t like me at all. They’ll step up only when they feel like it, and they’ll give kisses only for the rare millet bribe. Other than that, they’re best friends with each other and mostly avoid me.

But here’s the weird part — they usually sing when I’m in the room, and go quiet when I leave. So do they hate me, like me, or just enjoy performing for an audience?

Say hi to my little fighter, El Wiwi. 🦜💚 He’s been sick for a bit, but he’s getting treatment and taking his medication… even though he acts personally betrayed every single time.

We’re not completely sure what caused it, but the vet found early signs of infection, so thankfully he’s already being treated. Hoping he keeps getting stronger from here.

Has anyone else had a budgie act like medication is the worst crime ever committed? 😭
