Trooper David Handschumacher of the Marietta Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol was honored today for rescuing a chase suspect from the Muskingum River.

UPDATE: Police on scene confirmed a deceased individual was recovered out of the river by the Williamstown Fire Department.

No additional information can be provided at this time.

Orig: Wood County and Ohio agencies are working to retrieve a body floating in the Ohio River under the Williamstown-Marietta Bridge, according to Wood County Sheriff Rick Woodyard.

Woodyard confirmed his agency received the report around 5:37 p.m.

Barn artist Scott Hagan is putting the final touches on a new mural on St. Rt. 821. The barn was made available by its owner George Broughton.

"The Ohio History Connection is sponsoring this mural of Commodore Abraham Whipple who took a leading active role in the American Revolution by challenging the naval supremacy of Britain’s Royal Navy. After the war, Whipple became one of the founders of Marietta where he built ocean-going sailing ships. He is buried in the city’s Mound Cemetery along with other Revolutionary War veterans."
