People love to glamorize entrepreneurship. The freedom. The “I work for myself” energy. The brand deals, booked-out calendars, and viral moments. But what you rarely hear are the hard truths—the quiet confessions that only surface behind closed doors, in group chats, or during a breakdown in the car after another bounced invoice.

So let’s talk about it.

Here are 10 things entrepreneurs don’t usually tell you—until you’re already knee-deep in the grind.

1. You’ll doubt yourself even when you’re doing well.

Success doesn’t kill imposter syndrome. You can be hitting goals and still feel like a fraud. That’s why mindset work matters just as much as marketing strategies.

Before Joy Allen-Altimare stepped into her role, Saucony had already run a long race. Born in 1898 on the banks of Saucony Creek in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, the brand has spent more than a century building trust on the track and in the streets. Known for pioneering innovations like the Jazz Original and the grid cushioning system, Saucony earned its stripes not just as a running brand—but as a symbol of motion, grit, and evolution.

Its name, rooted in a Native American word meaning “where two rivers run together,” is fitting. Because today, a new convergence is happening—one between legacy and leadership, tradition and transformation. That meeting point is Joy Allen-Altimare, the brand’s Global Chief Marketing Officer and a force rewriting the rules of connection, culture, and consumer care.

There’s a moment—maybe you’ve had it too—when a casual scroll turns into a silent storm. The comments section starts buzzing with projections, hot takes, and callouts that weren’t even meant for you, but suddenly, you’re shrinking. It’s not just digital noise; it’s spiritual noise. And for Black women who dare to show up online with their full selves—brilliant, complex, and unfiltered—the stakes feel different.

In a space where presence is power, it becomes essential to choose when, how, and where to be seen. Because while we’ve built platforms, launched brands, and shaped entire movements online, the internet isn’t always a soft place to land.

So how do we protect our peace without disappearing?
