🚨 Hero or Rulebreaker? 🚨

An 11-year-old boy in Lansing, Michigan, is at the center of a heated controversy after being expelled from school for what many are calling an act of bravery.

Back in May, the seventh grader reportedly spotted a classmate with a gun at Dwight Rich Middle School. The other student never fired any shots, but instead of running, the boy stepped in. Using hunting skills, he allegedly took the gun, dismantled it, and threw away the bullets, actions his mom believes prevented a possible tragedy.

But instead of being celebrated, the boy was expelled under Michigan’s strict zero tolerance laws regarding weapons on school property. The Lansing School District says state law left them with no choice, pointing to “clear direction” that any student handling a firearm on campus must face expulsion.

His mother, Savitra McClurkin, disagrees, calling her son a hero who acted out of courage, not malice. She says he had no history of trouble and was only trying to protect his classmates. Now, she’s homeschooling him while fighting to have him reinstated, claiming the district has cut him off from all accredited options.

Police later confirmed that another 12-year-old was arrested for bringing the weapon to school, but no shots were fired.

💭 The Debate:
Should the boy have told an adult immediately instead of handling the gun himself?
Did the district go too far by enforcing the law without considering his intentions?
Or is this exactly why “zero tolerance” rules exist, to prevent anyone, even with good intentions, from handling weapons in school?

This case is sparking outrage and discussion nationwide: heroic courage vs. strict policy.

👉 What do YOU think, should this 11-year-old be punished or praised?
