The Flood Advisory will expire at 145 AM EDT early this morning for
a portion of western North Carolina, including the following area,
Polk.

The heavy rain has ended. Flooding is no longer expected to pose a
threat in Polk County. Please continue to heed any remaining road
closures.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of western North Carolina, including the
following county, Polk.

* WHEN...Until 145 AM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1037 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is
ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area.
Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over
the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Saluda, Chimney Rock State Park and Lake Adger.
- Green River as well as Walnut Creek and Britten Creek may be
impacted.

At 1016 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 8
miles northwest of Rutherfordton, or 5 miles east of Lake Lure,
moving northeast at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Rutherfordton, Lake Lure, Shingle Hollow, Green Hill, Sugar Hill,
Thermal City, and Union Mills.
