🚨 Marlin Water Update: What’s Causing the Pressure Drops 🚨 1-28-2026

I spoke directly with City Manager Jason Creasy and want to share a clear update with the citizens of Marlin.

Right now, the water plant is producing about 800 gallons per minute, which is half of normal capacity. When the plant’s holding tank (the clear well) runs low, the city must pause pumping water into town to allow it to refill. That process is what’s causing pressure drops and temporary outages.

The system really needs around 1,200 gallons per minute to stay stable, but at the moment it’s operating with very little room for error.

*Until production increases, citizens will experience a loss of water pressure or no water at all in intervals.

Water Bills Went Up, But the Water Still Goes Off. Here’s the Question Marlin Is Asking.

Today, I asked Mayor Byrd a question that many citizens have been wrestling with:
How do we reconcile a 5% water rate increase when residents are still experiencing little to no water due to ongoing issues at the treatment plant?

However, for residents, the frustration is real. When bills increase, expectations rise too. And when water service is inconsistent, especially during emergencies, it feels like people are paying more for something they can’t fully rely on.

This isn’t about blame.
It’s about accountability, transparency, and trust.

Mayor of Marlin Files Declaration of Disaster

The City of Marlin is currently facing a serious water emergency that disrupted operations at the city’s water treatment plant.

According to Mayor Byrd, the plant was operating normally until water pressure suddenly dropped due to freezing conditions. Frozen meters, extremely cold surface water, and dense water clogging the plant’s clarifier and filtration systems prevented the facility from producing enough water to meet citywide demand.

The issue is plant-related, not the result of active water leaks.

At present, the city is producing approximately 800 gallons per minute, which is less than half of what is needed to supply the entire community. No definitive timeline has been established for full restoration.

Mayor Byrd stated that the city has contacted every available state agency and is working closely with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. She stated that a formal disaster declaration has been submitted to the Governor of Texas requesting emergency assistance, especially since Falls County was not included in the state’s earlier weather-related emergency declaration.

The City of Marlin Water Treatment Plant is currently experiencing operational issues. The plant is actively producing water; however, production volume is half of what it normally is. This is due to issues affecting the filtration and electronic communications systems at the plant. These issues have been exacerbated by the hard freeze, which has increased the density of the water being treated and pushed into town. Our staff is working tirelessly to address these issues and identify solutions that will allow us to increase water production. Most customers will experience significant pressure reductions or outages as a result of the aforementioned issues at the water plant. Unfortunately, at this time, we are unable to provide a definitive timeline for full pressure restoration. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We will post another update at 12:45 P.M.

Actualización del servicio de agua y la planta potabilizadora (27/01/26)

La planta potabilizadora de la ciudad de Marlin está experimentando problemas operativos. La planta está produciendo agua, pero el volumen de producción es la mitad del habitual. Esto se debe a problemas que afectan los sistemas de filtración y comunicación electrónica de la planta.
