Hey friends! The Marlin Christmas Parade is tonight at 6:30- I will be taking photos of the floats at showtime, but want to invite you to stop by the Marlin Democrat Office downtown between 6 and 8 (before or after the parade)!

Today is your last chance to score a 3-month digital subscription to the paper in exchange for 4 canned goods/non-perishable food items! This food is going back to locals through the Falls County Samaritan House, but we haven’t raised much. We’ll even give you a shoutout in the paper for donating!

We are also accepting donations of new socks, mittens, gloves, and underwear for local seniors- pop in and place a package on our Christmas tree in the window- let’s brighten their holiday season!

Christmas Story & Photo Contest

Do you hear what I hear ... Sleigh bells ring, are you listening ... Chestnuts roasting … yup, it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.
And your friends at your hometown newspaper are getting into the spirit of the season and are excited to announce our first-ever Christmas writing and photography contests.
The concept is simple. Similar to what we did at Halloween, we are opening up our email inboxes to draw in some wonderful Christmas stories – YOUR stories. Do you have a holiday tale that came from your past? Perhaps one that is completely fictional? Whatever it is, if the writing muse strikes, why not share it with us?
We’ll award the winning entry a first-place certificate, and we’ll publish it in the paper (and you can then say you are a published author).
Ditto with the photo contest. Send us your best photos, and we’ll give the winner a certificate suitable for framing and publish the winning entry.
In both cases, give us a Christmas or holiday theme. Then we’ll let our talented panel of judges go to work.
Here’s how it works.
-Write your Christmas-themed story (or take your photo) and send it to us.
-Don’t exceed 1,000 words – and only send us one photo.
-Connect your story/image to the Falls Co. area somehow.
-The writing/image must be your own and original. You must own the rights to it and sign a release stating as such, as well as give us permission to publish it.
-Get it to us by noon, Friday, Dec. 12.
Pretty simple.
One winner will be selected and that stories will be published, along with the author’s name and photo, by Christmas. If the judges select any stories as honorable mentions, those will be published on our website.
How do you enter?
Simply upload at https://forms.gle/T2RtrshRLK7Dp8MJ9 or e-mail your story/photo to [email protected] or drop it off at our beautiful downtown office.

In the spirit of the season, we are hoping to put a “Thankfulness” page in next week’s edition of Marlin Democrat!

I am asking local community members and leaders for a couple of sentences listing things you’re thankful for this season. You can provide as much detail as you like!
We also would love a picture of you (selfie, professional headshot, family photo, whatever you prefer!) to print with your quote about what you’re grateful for. If posted before Sunday evening, you might be published in next week's Thanksgiving issue.

Early Deadlines Ahead of Thanksgiving Holiday

Due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, newspaper deadlines will be Friday, Nov. 21, at 5 p.m. This adjustment ensures we can deliver your favorite hometown newspaper before the holiday so everyone can enjoy time with friends and family.
If you have any news to share, or an event to add to the “Around Town” community calendar, make sure to send it by Friday!
We appreciate your cooperation and wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving.

After more than 30 years of debate over the cost and usefulness of the penny, the U.S. Mint has officially stopped producing them. We want to hear from our community: do you think this is a good change or a bad one?

All you have to do is react to vote!🗳📰
