Trigger warning ⚠️

This photo and post could be triggering to some but the intention is to bring attention to the problem.

A former inside source has told us that the county has put upwards of 50,000$ towards a K-9. This dog is intended to combat the drugs in our county, has the dog done any work since being on the job? The answer to this question would not be the fault of the dogs.

We’re unaware of the age of the dog, the training of which the dog has received but one would think it has to be properly trained to be a 50,000$ dog.

The person who reach out would argue that the dog will not be used properly and in turn be a waste of a good K-9 and at that point a drain on our county funds. They would also argue that the dog is being kept as a family dog rather than a working dog.

Earlier I wrote a list of names and wanted to send them out to officers in our community particularly the officer that handles the k-9 and ask why the dog hasn’t been unleashed on these people?

The list was significant and I feel almost certain that if these people were held accountable it would clean up the street’s tremendously.

Why is there no recovery or drug busts coming out of Pocahontas County?
Our neighboring counties have busts. I don’t recall a major bust in Pocahontas County in next to two decades. We all know it’s here, why do we keep turning a blind eye to it?

Do we perhaps have too many informants?

What good does having informants do if nothing more than to find out that the informer is informing on a fellow informant?

Snitching in circles, perhaps?

Can the new town cop pull over the backpacking bicycle bandits all around town in the middle of the roads?

Surely we can find a reason to stop them and ask where they’re headed while also watching for reasonable suspicion to search the backpack?

Do we have the right to be asking these questions? I would like to think so.

This impacts our community and our kids in ways that are unimaginable to the person who lives their life from beyond a white picket fence.

The Pocahontas County Commission has had the “opioid settlement” on the agenda for several months. The opioid settlement is big pharma basically paying off places like WV and taking responsibility for their role in the epidemic.

However, I think it’s only fair that we, as a community pay very close attention to where these funds go when it is issued to the counties and ask how it’s going to be used to benefit the people it’s intended to help.

Why not a public shelter that also extended a helping hand to people that want help to escape this lifestyle?

Maybe a local residential treatment facility?

The things already in place are broken and failing, we should try something new that expresses empathy and understanding.

Drugs are serious and are by no means a laughing matter.

The things going on in the shadows and in the late hours of night are unimaginable and are as close as second avenue, beneath everybody’s noses.

You can refer to the July 7th meeting on the Poc. Co. Commission page to hear how the discussion is going. The minutes on this topic start at 1:56 and don’t last long. This topic concludes the meeting.

Here are some references to help better understand the settlement and the representatives controlling the funds:
