Clark County Courier: Marshall

Clark County Courier: Marshall The Marshall Advocate is proud to provide local newspaper coverage of Marshall, Martinsville, West Union, West York, Hutsonville and the surrounding areas.

Strohm Newspapers, Inc. traces its humble beginnings back to a 4-page monthly tabloid newpaper known as the West Union Shopper-Gazette. Founders Gary and Melody Strohm had moved their young family to the West Union area and felt that the area needed a source of factual information. With the encouragement of Joe and Pat McCammon, owners of the Marshall Choice, the couple started a monthly tabloid n

ewspaper in 1993 to accomplish this goal. Their equipment consisted of a 486 computer, copier and laser printer and layout table-all in their bedroom. In 1994 they began to publish the Shopper-Gazette weekly and added another small tabloid, the Martinsville Gazette, which was also printed weekly. In November of 1996 the couple started a weekly tabloid newspaper, the Marshall Advocate, to serve the Marshall area. Two years later the format was changed to broadsheet. Throughout this time, the newspapers were distributed free and the young company relied on advertisements for income. The staff of Strohm Newspapers strives to pack each issue with local news and features.

From the Strohm Family:
Our family has been smeared by two people who claimed to want to continue our paper, and, although we’d prefer not to dignify the attacks with a response, we felt that we owed it to our friends and former customers to provide the true story. See the link below.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to publish the newspaper today as planned due to unforeseen obstacles that have hit us hard. We’ve put our heart and soul into this for our community, but like Rocky Balboa says, “it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”
Stay tuned Clark County.

On Aug. 3, the Marshall Farmer’s Market transformed this 1872 opera house into a vibrant showcase of Clark County’s bounty.

Local beef, chicken, and Wolf River apples from gardeners Maxine and Jason starred in a nose-to-tail menu, served family-style by FFA students. Handcrafted dishware from Fried Green Tomatoes Shop and antique doilies set a nostalgic tone. Fresh, sustainable dishes, like the standout balsamic-dressed salad, highlighted local farmers’ hard work, connecting our community to its roots. Savor the flavors of Marshall!

☀️ 🍋 What a great evening at the Marshall Farmers Market last night! Despite the hot and humid weather, the scene was alive with excitement as the community gathered to sip unique lemonades and check-out the incredible stands crafted by our young entrepreneurs. These kids have been hard at work, just like the seasoned vendors who set up weekly, designing and building their creations from scratch.

“Cousin’s Countryside” came together with its charming country flair, “Nat Nat’s” was a labor of love with its playful setup, and “Marvelous Lemonade” dazzled with superhero-inspired details—all while prepping delicious flavors from traditional to hulk flavors.

From planning to painting to perfecting their recipes, these young kids are on their way to becoming the next generation of business builders.

Just around the corner, the street was lined with new and returning vendors with items from fresh vegetables, baked goods, homemade items, local meat and honey so you could sip and shop before sitting back to listen to the Marshall City Band rounding out the night with their Christmas in July event!

The Marshall SheCats 8U showcased their spirit at the USSSA Great Lakes Nationals in Evansville, Indiana with great performances! In their matchup against Kentucky Chrome 2017 8U, Ledger R’s double and Scarlett P’s groundout each drove in a run in the first. Adelyn G’s three-RBI homer in the third fueled a rally, and Brooke D went 2-for-2, leading the team’s nine hits. Despite flawless fielding, with Finley J handling six chances, they fell 16-6.

Against ProX Phoenix Kirkham 8U, the SheCats’ bats exploded for 19 hits! Scarlett P went 3-for-3 with a triple, while Ledger R’s triple and Lainey S’s single tied the game in the second. Finley J’s two-RBI double sparked a five-run fifth, briefly taking an 11-9 lead. Scarlett, Bria H, and Akstynn C each notched three hits, and Adelyn G led with eight fielding plays, keeping the defense error-free. Though ProX surged late for a 15-11 win, the SheCats’ fight was undeniable!

At the time of this post, we were waiting to hear when they played next. If you can’t make it to cheer them on, you can always follow them on GameChanger!

Jeep Jam 2025: Marshall Comes Together for a Day of Jeep Fun and Community Spirit
Marshall, IL – June 22, 2025
By: Aubrey Hargis

Engines roared, tires kicked up mud, and drivers grinned ear to ear — Jeep Jam once again brought together a community unlike any other. From lifted Wranglers to vintage CJs and Star Wars-themed builds, the event was more than just a meet-up. It was a celebration of pride, personality, and people who live by one motto:

“It’s a Jeep thing — you wouldn’t understand.”

According to many Jeep owners at the event, that’s not just a saying. “Unless you have a Jeep,” one owner put it, “you really wouldn’t understand. It’s not just a car. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a mindset.”

This mindset includes more than just trail-ready tires and custom mods — it includes the wave.

“Do I wave at other Jeep drivers? Always,” one driver said with a smile. “And if someone doesn’t wave back? Yeah, I get a little salty. It’s about respect. The wave says, ‘You’re part of the family.’”

The Jeep family also take naming their vehicles very seriously — and each name tells a story.

One eye-catching ride was Storm Money, a bright white Gladiator with real meaning behind the name. “My husband works on power lines,” said the owner. “When a big storm hits, he’s out working nonstop. The money he earns during storm season? That’s what paid for this Jeep. So, we named her Storm Money.”

Nearby was Renegade — a new build made to look like the classic Jeep Renegades from the past. “I just love the old-school look,” said the owner. “So I styled mine to match. It’s a modern build with vintage vibes — and that’s exactly the look I was going for.”

Then there was Scully — bold, white, and a little mysterious. When asked about the name, the owner just smiled and said, “The tale’s yet to be told. But trust me, he’s going to have one.”

And finally, Dark Side turned heads with matte black paint, red accents, and subtle nods to a galaxy far, far away. “I’m a huge Star Wars fan,” the owner said. “This is my Darth Vader Jeep. Naming it Dark Side? That was easy.”

Hosted by tMarshall Area Chamber Commercerce, Jeep Jam 2025 showed once again that it’s not just about the vehicles—it’s about people, passion, and the joy of community.

Every jeep had its own personality, its own story, and its own reason to stand out.
So let me ask you, what Jeep is your favorite?
