Housed in a 1930's gas station, Juicebox Recording features 1200 square feet of recording space and a great selection of gear and instruments.
I am currently lining up projects for the summer and are looking for bands who want to make great recordings. My studio features a tasty blend of analog and digital gear and a great selection of microphones and mic pre's. I have 32 tracks of digital recording (D32XD and Pro Tools) synced to an analog 16 track tape machine. You can come in and record drums to tape and dump into pro tools for editing and overdubs....you won't find a better drum sound in town for 25/hr!!....well maybe not! Mixing is also a breeze with a very accurate monitor system. Mixes go fast and smooth and translate well to the outside world. Nothing fancy....just quality gear, good ears and a relatively neutral mix suite. Monitoring includes Yamaha NS10M, KRK K-Rocks, RSL 2600 mini mains and a 12" sub all powered by hi-fidelity Yamaha, Alesis and Ross studio amps. 4 headphone feeds are available, featuring AKG, Superlux, Pioneer and Tascam headphones. The house drum set is always tuned and ready to go as well. The kit features a 22x16 kick and as many as 5 rack toms (8"-16"). I have a small collection of great sounding snares including a vintage (1967) Ludwig Pioneer and a mid 70's Super Sensitive. The studio features Dream Bliss cymbals (16" and 17" crash, 20" Ride, 12" and 13" Hi Hats, 10" splash and an 18" Chinese). The drums sound great but you are welcome to bring yours as well.. Being a small studio I often track guitars direct (at first) through a POD HD500. This is a great modeler and really takes the guesswork out of getting a good guitar tone to start. The house guitar amps feature tube amps by Epiphone and Peavey and Solid State amps by Roland and Yamaha. Utilizing the best of modeling and blended with the live energy of a real amp in a real room I get great guitar sounds...everything from rock and country to soul.... For acoustics I have guitars by Taylor and Eastwood as well as a couple of vintage classicals. Electrics include 2 Frankenstrats loaded with SD Pearly Gates and DiMarzio hot rails and a vintage Peavey T-40 bass. I have a small but mighty collection of microphones featuring condensers from Blue, Audio Technica, MXL, Superscope, and Realistic (don't laugh....I love this mic on Hi Hat!!). For dynamics I have a vintage AKG D12, a great Peavey 520i kick mic, drum mics from KAM (the st-2 is a 57 killer!!) Shure 57's and 58's and some assorted oddities including a PBR can microphone....don't ask. I also have a few ribbon mics from EV and MXL. There are many options for microphone pre's including 8 very transparent premaps on the Korg mixer. These are fantastic, quiet and very neutral sounding. They can be routed to the internal recorder on the Korg or out of the mixer via ADAT and pre or post effects....very handy for feeding line in's on the tape machine. For a little more grit I have a Yamaha M406, transformer balanced, 6 channel mixer. This is a 2 bus mixer modded to deliver direct outs when needed and works great as a submixer for tom-toms. The channels are robust and very forward.....very late 70's sounding. For a more rounded sound I have a Bozak CMA-10-1 modded for 10 direct outs. These are fantastic (but finnicky) discrete preamps which utilize Altec transformers and have a very 60's sound to them.... perfect for your next soul project! I also have a few weirdo pre's laying around from ART and Shure.. I can record an album start to finish and help with mastering, either in-house or through one of my partner companies. Digital video is also available through a partner as well as graphic design and packaging for complete album projects. My studio is conveniently located in the North Asheville area, just 5 minutes from downtown. The rooms are not huge but I get great sounds and I enjoy spending the time getting great performances. Rates are 25/hr tracking and mixing but I am flexible and would rather record great performances for less money that worry about making a buck....so I keep the overhead really low....like, really low. Thanks for looking and please give me a shout for your next recording project!! Thanks

Hi everyone! I am slowly reopening the studio over the next week after an extensive tear down and rebuild of the control room. The studio has been unable to procure any assistance over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic and we really need to get moving again to pay the bills. To that end I am renewing the 200$/8 HR day offer. This is 8 hours of recording time with an engineer and includes tape if we are recording analog (digital recording is available too). If you have never been here we have a really cool collection of vintage amps, and a pretty good size space in a 100 year old gas station out in Marshall. We offer digital and analog recording or a hybrid of both and we have made some cool records out here.. Some of our clients include Kevin Smith (Planefolk), Paul Edelman (Jangling Sparrows), Slow Poison, Twinstar, Cloud City Caskets, The Fuzzards, Pleasure Chest and others..
Please send a message if you would like to come out for a socially distanced tour of the studio (free hand sanitizer!). Also you can book some time, make a donation or join our worthless Patreon, which someday will have some content, from the links below to support Marshall's little rock and roll studio..
Book a day or just make a donation!
Or join our worthless Patreon and show a little love every month! Someday we will post some content...

Hey all.... We will be hosting free multi-camera video concerts here at Marshall Sound starting next week. If you want to come participate let us know. These are gonna be lofi, vhs shot videos (4 camera) and digitized. If you want to host a watch party for tips and/or donations this will hopefully be a cool retro way to do it. We will be all set up in the new warehouse space with lights, digital audio mixer, cameras, retro video mixer, and all the bells and whistles to stream your mini concert. We are still working on the space and the streaming bugs but we should be ready to go in the next few days.... Again this is free, our way of helping support the Asheville music community. Basically, you show up, we sound and video check, set up the streams and play a show. Stream on your personal accounts with venmo, Paypal account links and hopefully make some scratch.
If you would like to help support Marshall Sound Studio (and good golly we are gonna need it!) you could consider joining us on Patreon (where we post exactly zero content), Sending a Paypal donation (links below) or just giving us a virtual hug we would appreciate it! Also, If there are any streaming whiz kids that would like to help us set up the streaming part of this please DM us.

Hey all!!!! So obviously I’m going to postpone this years anniversary party at the studio. That being said when things get sorted out we gonna have a banger!!! Hopefully by the time this Corona Virus thing is figured out the new room will be finished as well and I’m thinking a big ol’ dance party to celebrate!! In the meantime I gotta book some future business to keep the wheels on the bus so I’m selling full and half day gift certificates at half price. These do not expire and can be used anytime, schedule permitting.

What a week... Started by mixing Tina and her Pony and Kathryn O'Shea (FANTASTIC!) on Thursday at the Diana Wortham Theater. Friday it was Cosmic Charlie at the Asheville Music Hall and then the Beastie Boys tribute band, High Plains Drifters and Empire Strikes Brass on Saturday for the Team Hot Mess party. Sunday was back at the Diana Wortham for David LaMotte, BJ Leiderman and David Holt... Variety is the spice of life..
