Sneak Peek: Casey & Westfield’s Historic Roots!

Join the Clark County Courier: Casey as we explore the vibrant history of Casey and Westfield, Illinois!

Founded in 1856 along the National Road, Casey grew through Zadok Casey’s vision, with pioneers like John Lang shaping its early days via the Lang Hotel, a vital stagecoach stop. The Pennsylvania Railroad’s arrival in the 1850s linked Casey to markets, boosting its agricultural economy. By 1907, Pennsylvania drillers ignited an oil boom, drilling 2,000 wells across 9,000 acres near Casey and Westfield, fueling prosperity and the creation of Fairview Park, once home to a racetrack.

Westfield thrived alongside Casey, sharing in the oil wealth. Our upcoming articles will dive into these key figures and infrastructure milestones, like the National Road and railroads.

Casey’s Crazy Days 2025 Lights Up Main Street!

On June 14, Casey, IL, buzzed with the vibrant spirit of Crazy Days! Classic cars—from Novas and Corvettes to pre-1940s Buicks and rat rods—lined Main Street for a stunning car show, with trophies awarded to top entries. Locals and visitors rallied behind Casey’s shops, showcasing our small-town pride. You were also able to savor the flavors from vendors like Rosie Jean’s Sweet Tea & Jesus (with 20+ tea varieties!) and Mac Daddy Food Truck, serving cheesy delights, while grilled aromas wafted through the air.

Families captured memories at our “Big Things” landmarks, like the giant bird cage and ruler, and kids loved co****le on the City of Casey’s amphitheater community area. Local artisans sold handcrafted goods, and Woot celebrated its 21st birthday under the world’s largest mailbox, waving to crowds. Zac Edington debuted his Reality Check Mobile VR -- catch him next in Marshall on June 21st for the Jeep Festival!

When a break was needed, Lang’s Landing provided a cozy community gathering space in downtown Casey, ideal for enjoying snacks from local vendors and recharging for your next “Big Thing” adventure.

With a gentle breeze and overcast skies, it was a perfect day for community fun. Storms threatened, but they never prevailed with the sun coming out on top at the very end just in time to pass out the awards for the car show.
