🔥🐷 TWO BIG BBQ CONTESTS — ONE WEEKEND. DOES SOMEBODY GET HURT? 🐷🔥
Here’s something that caught our attention at The BBQ Times.
📍 The Big Pig Jig — Vienna, Georgia📍 Grills for Gratitude — Plant City, Florida
Both are scheduled for November 6–7, 2026 — and both will feature Memphis Barbecue Network competition, including Whole Hog.
Plant City will also host a KCBS State Championship that weekend.
That makes for an interesting situation.
The Big Pig Jig is one of the oldest and best-known Whole Hog contests in the Southeast and Georgia’s official barbecue cooking championship. It has decades of tradition behind it and $18,000 in cash prize money this year.
But there’s also a lot of interest building around the new Plant City event.
And Whole Hog teams aren’t exactly a dime a dozen.
Cooking a whole hog takes equipment, manpower, time and MONEY. A team can’t be in Vienna and Plant City at the same time.
🔥 So here’s the question for the BBQ world:
Will having two MBN Whole Hog contests on the same weekend hurt the team count at either event?
Does tradition keep the established teams headed to Vienna?
Does the Plant City event and its location pull more of the Florida teams south?
Or is competitive BBQ strong enough right now for both contests to have a big weekend?

🔥 Something may be starting to smoke again… 🔥

The BBQ Times began more than 20 years ago as a printed newspaper covering the people, contests, teams and stories that made competition barbecue special. Later, Audrey took it over and helped carry it into a changing media world.

A lot has changed since then. Printed newspapers became old news before they reached the mailbox, while videos, podcasts and social media opened up entirely new ways to tell those stories.

After 20 years of serving in leadership and on the board of a barbecue organization, I recently decided it was time to step back. I’m not exactly sure what comes next—but I do know I’d like to get back out to a few BBQ events, visit with old friends, meet some new ones and have a little fun again.

You may begin seeing some new stories, photos and videos from The BBQ Times. Maybe even a podcast or two down the road. Hopefully Audrey and Lil' Audrey (Evans) will join me occasionally, and I might even persuade Julie to come along for the ride!

No big promises yet. We’re just putting a little wood on the fire and seeing where the smoke takes us.

Stay tuned… The BBQ Times may be heating up again.
