Lonesome Dove is basically a money mindset case study in cowboy hats.

Call wanted money because it proved something.

Gus wanted money because it bought him a better afternoon.

Same cattle drive.
Same risk.
Same opportunity.

Completely different relationship with money.

And honestly, that’s still how people operate today.

Some people use money as a scorecard.
Some use it as comfort.
Some use it as escape.
Very few use it as a tool.

That’s the shift.

Money is not the point.

The point is what it lets you build, buy, protect, or become.

The problem is when people chase the Montana cattle drive without asking what it will actually cost them.

Time.
Stress.
Marriage.
Health.
Freedom.

A deal can make money and still be a bad trade.

That’s why I like looking at the whole structure.

Not just “Can this make money?”

But:

“Is this worth what it requires from you?”

That’s where the real decision lives

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who make the whole world run.

The ones who remember the appointments
find the shoes
carry the worry
make the magic
and still keep moving

Motherhood looks sweet from the outside.

And it is.

But it is also leadership
endurance
sacrifice
patience
and a thousand invisible things that only get noticed when they are not done

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms doing more than anyone sees.

How not to ruin your life with a piddly collection.

Pay attention to the boring stuff.

I know.

Very glamorous.

But I have seen small collections create big headaches.

A missed medical bill
an old utility balance
a random account you forgot about
something you thought was handled

Then months later you are trying to buy land
finance a business
refinance a property
or make an actual money move

And there it is.

A tiny problem sitting on your credit report acting like it owns the place.

The frustrating part is that a lot of these are preventable.

Open the mail.

Check your credit.

Handle the small balance.

Get proof when something is paid.

Do not assume “it is only a little collection” means it cannot matter.

Little sloppy things have a way of showing up at very expensive times.

And nothing feels more annoying than letting a piddly bill interfere with a serious goal.

Marshfield dads
this is your warning.

Mother’s Day is not the day to ask
“What do you want to do?”

That is not a plan.

That is outsourcing the mental load back to the woman you are supposed to be celebrating.

Keep it simple.

Let the kids pick flowers
grab coffee or pastries
choose a small local gift
plan a picnic or walk
make the card before Sunday morning

It does not have to be expensive.

It does have to look like someone thought ahead.

And yes
the homemade card matters more when it is not made in a panic five minutes before church

Simple wins here.

A little planning
a little local effort
and a mom who does not have to manage her own celebration

That is the whole point.

Oh p**p.

You can outsource payroll for around $50 a month?

That is not just a business expense.

That is buying back brain space.

A lot of business owners are still doing tasks that make them feel responsible
but do not actually require their brain.

Payroll
basic bookkeeping
scheduling
invoice follow ups
admin work

They tell themselves they are saving money.

Sometimes they are really just keeping themselves stuck in low value work.

Two hours a week does not sound like much.

Until you realize that is over 100 hours a year.

That is sales calls
strategy
relationship building
cleaning up systems
or just getting your evenings back

The first time you pay someone else to handle something that has been quietly draining you
you realize the goal is not to do everything.

The goal is to stop being the bottleneck.

Something is shifting in Marshfield… and if you’re paying attention, it’s exciting.

New storefronts are opening. Fresh ideas are showing up. People are taking chances on businesses that make the square feel alive again.

It’s not just about a flower shop, a bakery, or a boutique. ( but you should definitely check them out)
It’s about momentum.

When small businesses start popping up, it usually means one thing:
people believe in the future of the town.

And that matters.

Because strong local economies aren’t built by one big win.
They’re built by a lot of small, smart moves stacked together:

• Someone signing a lease
• Someone renovating an old space
• Someone deciding it’s worth the risk to start

That’s how a town grows.

So if you’ve been thinking about starting something, expanding, or investing locally… pay attention to what’s happening right now.

These are the early signals most people miss.

The square isn’t just changing.
It’s waking up.

How to use your day job to quit your day job:

Most people try to escape their job too early.
That’s usually why it doesn’t work.

Your job isn’t the problem.
It’s your first funding source.

If you use it right, it gives you:
• Consistent income
• Borrowing power
• Stability to take calculated risks

That’s exactly what you need to build cash-flowing assets.

The people who actually make the transition don’t jump blindly.
They stack.

• Buy cash-flowing real estate
• Invest in businesses that produce income
• Reinvest, not upgrade lifestyle

Then one day, the income from those assets replaces the paycheck.

That’s when the decision becomes easy.

Not emotional. Not risky. Just math.

Most people don’t fail because they picked the wrong strategy.
They fail because they tried to skip this phase.

If you’re serious about building toward that point—

Start treating your job like a tool, not a trap.

I admire couples who can share a Facebook account. I really do.

The thought of my husband and I both logging into the same Marketplace algorithm…

Feels like a risk I’m not willing to take.
