Something that has been on my mind as of late…

Those of you who know me understand that I don’t do this thing for the money, there isn’t really much in it! Plus, I know a lot of the subject matter I cover is rather niche. I have chosen not to really spend any money on advertising and raising awareness. Because I feel that it negatively affects me as an artist. This is my art and I will express it my way.

That being said, I know how it is for the ones who are just starting out. I know how it is to try and network your brand, name, service in an area that is absolutely saturated. It’s hard to compete with other photographers and videographers. It’s even harder to compete with people who pull out their cell phones and just get video of their athlete. It’s almost impossible to compete with people who can “get content for free by doing it themselves…”

This is what I have to say to those who are just starting or struggling (like me):

Concentrate on your art. Get a better understanding of your expression and don’t change it because someone else says you should do it this way. They more than likely won’t buy it anyway so why change for them? The ones who appreciate your expression and style will take care of you.

For the ones who don’t feel the need to pay for videos or photos:

Cool. Don’t pay. Don’t steal either. Don’t come and occupy space in the area we are working to “get the best angle.” That’s the price you pay for choosing to not be present in the situation and pulling out your phone. I get it… you want to be able to remember the moment forever. What you don’t understand is that you aren’t getting all of it when you pull out the phone and record. You literally shut down all of your other senses when you do that. If you don’t believe me, look at your kids, friends, colleagues who bury their faces in their phones.

We volunteer our time to record the moment forever so you can enjoy it in the moment. You can’t get same feeling watching a 5 second video on a little phone screen…

Ok… that’s it. You all are amazing people!

One of the areas of focus for Kno-Idea Media is showcasing awesome people doing awesome things. The folks at Hands of a Sportsman are doing amazing work. I had the opportunity this weekend to help out with some video work for a couple of hunters! I hope to get another opportunity to work with these folks again in the near future!

Hey everyone! It's been a minute since I have made a youtube video. This quick video is from the the 31st Annual Bar L Arena rodeo hosted by Bar L Arena and the South Carolina High School Rodeo Association.
