A Scam Alert has been issued for Obion County residents.
The Obion County Sheriff’s Office has been informed of residents receiving scam calls pretending to be officers with the department.
The scammers are claiming the intended victims have missed jury duty.
They then tell the victims they face being arrested, unless a fine is paid immediately over the phone.
The Obion County Sheriff’s Office is urging local residents to hang up immediately if they should receive one of these calls.
They urge residents to not send money, gift cards or divulge personal information to the scam callers.
The Obion County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to share this information with elderly friends and family, who are often targeted by phone scammers.

Congratulations to Obion County Sheriff's Deputy Alex Cochran on being named "Deputy of the Year" for West Tennessee District 8.
Deputy Cochran was honored at the annual Tennessee Highway Safety Office’s Holiday meeting held in Madison County this month. Deputy Cochran is in his first year as a law enforcement officer and has shown great dedication to his profession in enforcing safety and security of the community.

The Murray State women Racers defeated Memphis in front of a record crowd on Monday.
Playing at the CFSB Center in the annual Education Day game, the women Racers defeated Memphis 85-57.
The new record of 4,513 fans watched Murray State jump out to a 53-29 lead at halftime, while improving on their season record to (8-2).

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct a checkpoint this week in Obion County.
Troopers will hold a sobriety roadside safety checkpoint on Friday.
The checkpoint will take place on State Route 431.
Troopers will be evaluating drivers for signs of alcohol and drug impairment, while also taking corrective actions for other violations observed.

An arrest was made following a shooting death in a Paducah nightclub early Sunday morning.
Paducah Police Department reports said 38 year old Phillip Whitnell was arrested by Illinois State Police, following the shooting at KC’s Bar and Grill.
Witnesses said a man, later identified as Whitnell, entered the nightclub and shot the female victim multiple times before fleeing.
The victim was taken to a Paducah hospital and pronounced deceased.
Detectives learned Whitnel and the victim had previously been in a relationship.
Whitnell was tracked into Illinois, where he was arrested on a warrant charging him with murder.
He will be extradited back to Kentucky on the charge.

Most all area school systems will begin their Christmas Break this week.
The Lake County School System will begin the holiday break period with a half-day of classes on Wednesday.
The school systems of Union City, Obion County, Weakley County, Dyer County and Gibson County will all dismiss after a half-day of classes on Friday.
And the Fulton County, Fulton Independent and Hickman County School Systems will also dismiss for Christmas Break on Friday, following a full day of classes.
