After a brutal stretch of matches over eight days, the Lady Charger soccer club returned to the friendly confines of the Martin Soccer Complex Tuesday evening.

Westview was in the midst of a four game skid, with losses to USJ, ECS, Georgetown Day School (DC), and Sacred Heart (KY) before pitching a shutout with the 3-0 win over Crockett County. The backline of Crislyn Warren, Aubree Simmons, Alyssa Williams, and Callie Hollowell held the Lady Cavaliers to six shots on the night, with only one coming in the second half. Westview keeper Kella Simmons recorded four saves and picked up her first shutout of the season.

The Lady Chargers controlled the field and showed aggression on the offensive end of the pitch, firing 17 shots on the night. Brea McGuffin scored in the 29th minute to give the Lady Chargers the early lead and the score held at the break.

After leading the boys program the last several years, Coach Chase Manley is now coaching both programs. Manley made some changes to the offensive alignment at the half, which resulted in Kaydence Papich recording her first goal of the season. In the 48th minute, Papich launched a corner kick into the box. The ensuing scrum allowed the ball to sq**rt free, where she sprinted in, collected and fired a shot into a narrow opening inside the left post to extend the lead, 2-0

Westview secured the insurance goal when Cambry Hatler was able to thread a pass into the 18 yard box to a streaking McGuffin who calmly collected her second score of the evening, putting the final nail in the coffin.

The Lady Chargers improve to 3-4 on the season and will head to Calloway County (KY) Thursday night.

First touch is at 5:30 pm.

🌱🎨 The Martin Grassroots Soybean Festival is officially underway!

One of the first creative highlights of the festival has wrapped up — the Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest!

Four beautiful chalk masterpieces were created, bringing plenty of color and creativity to the C.E Weldon building.

A big congratulations to everyone who participated and helped make the festival even more colorful! 🎨

The Grassroots Soybean Festival continues with plenty more events, music, food and fun throughout the week!

The Ohio woman accused of killing Weakley County Deputy Derrick Bonham appeared in court this afternoon for her arraignment.

Khristi Cunningham formally entered a plea of not guilty to multiple charges, including first-degree murder, reckless endangerment and aggravated assault.

Cunningham also received a public defender during Tuesday's hearing and will remain in custody....

On Saturday, a record-breaking 72 climbers will participate in the annual September 11th Memorial Stair Climb hosted by Union City firefighters and Discovery Park of America.

Participants will climb the Discovery Park Tower staircase 10 times, representing the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.

Each climber will carry an identification badge featuring a first responder who lost their life during the terrorist attacks on September 11 of 2001.

The event will begin with a memorial ceremony honoring the lives lost, with posters and messages of encouragement created by local students will line the tower stairwell.

Participants will include active and former firefighters, law enforcement officers, military personnel, emergency medical professionals, other first responders and members of the public climbing in honor of loved ones.

Check-in will begin at 8:00, with the opening memorial ceremony at 9:00, followed by the stair climbing at 9:30.

The event takes place at Cooper Tower at Discovery Park of America.

After 70 years of performing around the world, the Grammy Award winning country group, The Gatlin Brothers, have announced a “Farewell Celebration Tour”.

Larry, Steve and Rudy say the farewell tour will feature stories and personal videos, along with their history of country music that included seven No.1 singles and 33 Top-40 hits.

An announcement released Thursday by Larry Gatlin said after much thought and prayer, the brothers have decided to “hit the turn signal, check the rearview mirror, pump the brakes, move into the right lane, and look for an off-ramp”.

Gatlin said the tour will be all over America, with a guess of concluding in “Mayish of 28”.
