The annual lighting of the Christmas tree in downtown Union City will take place Thursday night at the Obion County Courthouse.
Main Street-Union City Director Katie Graves said Santa and Mrs. Claus will meet with children from 4:00 until 6:00, with the ceremony to then include the Obion County Children’s Choir, Voices of Union City, and students from the 2025 Fairshow.
Following the lighting of the Christmas tree, Mrs. Graves said food trucks will be on site and downtown merchants will be open for pre-Christmas Open House Weekend shopping.

A large crowd of veterans participated in a Veterans Day event at Fulton County High School on Tuesday.
Members of all branches of service were recognized by name during a morning celebration.
Fulton County students presented prayer, songs and military branch flags to honor those in attendance.
Former Fulton County graduate, and current National Guard E-4 Specialist Jason Douglas Sipes II, addressed the military veterans and students.
Tuesday service ended with the singing of God Bless America and the playing of Taps.

A secret Weakley County Grand Jury has indicted Martin Mayor Randy Brundige, his daughter Natalie Brundige and Martin Economic Development Director Brad Thompson. The charges pertain to the City of Martin.
Attorney General Colin Johnson presented information from the Tennessee State Comptroller’s office Monday that was compelling enough to indict the three.

Today is the federal holiday of Veterans Day.
The day is observed annually on November 11th and honors all veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
President Woodrow Wilson first declared Armistice Day on November 11th of 1919, which was later adopted as a legal holiday by Congress and President Calvin Coolidge in 1938.
In a move to honor all war veterans, both living and deceased, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill into law renaming the federal holiday as National Veterans Day.
Celebrations will take place across the nation today to honor those who have served in military service, both home and abroad.
