Graduation for Weakley County Schools has been rescheduled for the weekend of June 12th. Director of Schools Randy Frazier says postponing the planned May 15th event came about after consulting with local health officials. Graves County Now With Sixth Highest Confirmed Covid-19 Cases in Kentucky

Thursday's coronavirus report from Kentucky indicated 4,708 cases of the virus have been confirmed. Thursday's report also showed 240 deaths have occurred. The latest report also indicated Graves County with the sixth highest number of positive cases of the virus at 131. Also in Western Kentucky, McCracken County has reported 55, Marshall County and Calloway County with 34, Ballard County at 9, Carlisle County and Fulton County with 2, and Hickman County with 1. Jefferson County has the highest number of positive cases with 1,307.

Nearly 44,000 new unemployment claims were filed in Tennessee last week, with over 324,000 continue claims. Last week’s new claims were 25,000 less than the previous week. The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development reports over 1,100 new claims were filed in Northwest Tennessee. The U.S. Department of Labor reports 3.8 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, bringing the total number of jobless claims to 30 million in the past six weeks amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Thursday was a special day in the city of Fulton, as school officials, and community members, came together to honor Senior students. Due to COVID-19, UT Martin’s spring commencement will be held in a virtual format Saturday. UTM Chancellor Dr. Keith Carver tells Thunderbolt Radio News about the online ceremony. (AUDIO) More than 700 UTM graduates will be recognized during Saturday’s ceremony which is set to begin at 10:00 Saturday morning on the UT Martin page as well as the university’s YouTube channel. TWRA Finds Fisherman’s Body in Middle Tennessee

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has reported the finding of a boaters body in Middle Tennessee. Reports said officers were called to Center Hill Lake in Dekalb County, after 36 year old Quinn Hogan, of Putnam County, was reported missing. Friends called authorities after finding his truck parked at a boat dock. The TWRA said three of their boats, along with two Dekalb County rescue boats, began a search which ended with the recovery of Hogan's body on Wednesday. [ 32 more words ]

According to the TBI’s annual ‘Crime on Campus’ report, campus crime saw a slight increase last year, but a decrease overall from 2016. The TBI reports crime at Tennessee’s colleges and universities increased by 3.6 percent from 2018 to 2019, but has seen an overall decrease of 12.3 percent since 2016. At UT Martin, the total campus population in 2019 was 6,684 with the Department of Public Safety reporting 23 theft offenses and 16 assault offenses. [ 64 more words ]

Baptist Memorial Hospital will return to pre-COVID-19 services on Monday. Hospital CEO Skipper Bondurant said he and the staff are excited with the transition back into normal health care for the public. Tennessee COVID-19 case numbers increased by 369 Thursday, up to 10,735 with 199 deaths and 1,045 hospitalized. The Tennessee Department of Health reports 5,338 cases are now listed as recovered, outnumbering the 5,198 active cases. In Northwest Tennessee, Benton County is listed with six cases, Carroll County with 18, Crockett County reports seven cases, Dyer County has 34, Gibson County is listed with 43 cases, Henry County has 13 cases, Lake County with 55, Obion County has 13 cases, and Weakley County is up to 23 cases.

A new air ambulance service hoping to base in Union City, has now opted out of their lease agreement. Due to the affects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hospital Wing, of Memphis, will relinquish their planned location at Everett-Stewart Regional Airport. The company had planned to establish a base at the former 10,000 square-foot West Tennessee Aviation hanger.
