A proposed 587-acre mixed-use development in Pittsylvania County, Sugar Tree Living, is being planned as a large residential and commercial community designed to provide housing, recreation, shopping, dining and other services in one location.
The development is planned to include 90 villas, 988 single-family homes, 542 townhomes and 308 apartments, along with assisted living options for seniors.
Plans also call for a 180,000-square-foot, grocery-anchored shopping center with restaurants and other community amenities.
According to the project’s developers, Sugar Tree Living is strategically located on Martinsville Highway at the Martin Drive intersection near the Southside Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill and is intended to support the region’s growing workforce, families, entrepreneurs and aging population.
The project is being designed around parks, green space, nature trails, recreational amenities and neighborhood services, with developers describing the vision as an effort to support economic growth while maintaining the character and natural beauty of Southside Virginia.
No timeline on the project’s construction has been announced.
