A country legend through seven decades, we are KNDY Radio, and we’ve been a friend on your radio dial since the 1950’s. Today we broadcast country music, something that has been part of our DNA since the early 1970’s, and even before.
The story of KNDY begins in July 1956, when Andy Grauer, original station manager, and to which our K-N-D-Y call letters come from (K-ANDY), signed the station on-the-air for the first time on 1570 KHz. This brought local radio service to Marshall County for the first time ever. In the 1960’s the station was sold to Herb Hoeflicker, who together with his wife Ruby, became a familiar voice to thousands of listeners across the Midwest.
In June of 1974 Ruby & Herb signed on KNDY-FM for the first time, bringing local FM radio service to Northeast Kansas & Southeast Nebraska, originally on 103.1 MHz.
In 1988 Marysville native Bruce Dierking purchased KNDY AM & FM, launching Dierking Communications, Inc. , which today owns 6 radio stations across Kansas.
Also, in 1988, contemporary country music became the format of KNDY-FM, a format that remains in place today, and impressive 31+ years after launch.
In 2002 several Midwest radio stations were shifted along the FM radio dial to make room for a new addition to the Kansas City market, which relocated KNDY-FM from 103.1 Mhz to 95.5 Mhz with a new tower near state-line road and upgraded broadcasting power, allowing us to cover even more territory.
On May 2, 2011 Dierking Communications, Inc. signed on translator K231AX, bringing the full-service classic country format of 1570 KNDY-AM to FM, on 94.1 Mhz. This new station covers central Marshall County, and allows nighttime coverage of Marysville High School athletics.
Today we broadcast Today’s Hot New Country on FM 95.5 KNDY, and the legends of country on Classic County FM 94.1 KNDY, as well as 1570 AM.
