The grand opening of the River City Riverwalk last month has drawn a lot of attention, particularly the ‘Harmony in Light’ sculpture, the focal point of the newly named ‘Bill Schickel Plaza’ located in downtown Mason City, just south of the Southbridge Mall parking lot.
The cylindrical “Harmony in Light” gateway sculpture, crafted from laser-cut stainless steel, draws inspiration from classic Prairie School designs with a modern flair. Its intricate patterns cast dynamic shadows on the surrounding area. The artwork fosters welcoming and meaningful gathering spaces surrounded by art and nature while tying in the history and heritage of Mason City.
Captured on video is the narrated documentary of the planning, design, and overall vision behind the Riverwalk, from concept to reality. The voices behind the vision include team members providing their individual perspective of the project in their own creative style.
The storytellers include Artist Serge Beaulieu or HYBYOZO Studios; Kristy Sagdalen King, Principal, Bergland + Cram; Aaron Burnett, City Administrator for the City of Mason City; Anne Hansen, President of Mason City Parks & Recreation Board; and Bill Schickel, Mayor of Mason City.
The dream of a Riverwalk District on historic Willow Creek has come alive and we’re excited to share an inside look at the creative journey of a dream turned into a destination! Enjoy!
