Stop guessing during Houston Restaurant Weeks—we did the menu math for you! 🍽️📊

HRW is amazing for supporting the Houston Food Bank, but not every $25 lunch or $55 dinner menu gives you the same financial return. Here is where you get true high-value savings vs. standard menu pricing:

🚨 THE UNBEATABLE STEALS:

• Eculent ($55 Dinner): Typically an exclusive $200+ tasting experience. Getting a 4-course molecular gastronomy dinner for $55 is the highest ROI in town.

• Le Jardinier ($55 Dinner / $25 Lunch): Michelin-starred French dining where entrees alone normally reach $50–$65+.

• Chardon ($25 Lunch): Starters + $39 Beef Cheek Bourguignon for just $25.

🥩 THE “ORDER STRATEGICALLY” SPOTS:

• Patton’s ($55 Dinner): Order the base 8oz Tenderloin & Lobster Bisque to save $30+ (skip the pricey steak upgrades!).

• Okto & Lymbar: Go for seafood/steak entrees (like Branzino or Lomo Saltado) over salads/pastas to get maximum value for your $55.

⚖️ SOLID BUT BREAK-EVEN:

• Doko & Zanti: Fantastic food, but their $25 lunch menus closely match their everyday regular lunch pricing.

Nestled deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Mason is one of the state’s ultimate hidden gems. Known for its rich history, rugged red-granite landscapes, and incredible local food and wine scene, this charming town offers a perfect mix of authentic Small-Town Texas magic, top-tier vineyards, and laid-back country entertainment.

Top Things to Do

🍷 Peters Prairie Vineyard – Sip award-winning wine on a gorgeous property. Don’t miss their 2019 Barbera, honored as Top Texas Wine at the Rodeo Uncorked! Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Wine Competition.

🫏 The Great American Jackass Races – Catch this wild, hilariously unique local tradition, held as part of the annual Mason County Roundup Rodeo & Festival!

☕ La Copa Joe – Fuel up your morning with the delicious Iced Caramel Macchiato. They even have a drive-through!

🍕 Joe’s Italian Ristorante – Enjoy fantastic authentic Italian pizza, complete with a great gluten-free crust option!

🍇 Fly Gap Winery – Stop by for an incredible tasting experience—we absolutely loved their Mourvèdre. The patio in the back is a great place to relax and listen to live music.

🧺 Parr Vineyards – Experience a winery that hand-harvests everything, with each wine having a unique story! We had the pleasure of chatting with one of the winemakers during our visit.

🎶 James River Icehouse – Grab a drink, soak in live music, and enjoy the stunning Hill Country view.

✨ THE ULTIMATE NOLA CULINARY CRAWL:

1️⃣ The Court of Two Sisters – You can’t skip the classic bananas Foster here. The performance is great, but the flavor is even better. 🍌🔥

2️⃣ Shaya – The fried chicken hummus is amazing!! Pro-Tip: Go during happy hour when it’s half price! 🍗🧆

3️⃣ Cafe Du Monde – Classic, pillowy beignets buried under a mountain of powdered sugar. A rite of passage. ☕️☁️

4️⃣ The Carousel Bar – Grab a classic cocktail and watch the room spin (literally). They have live music too! 🎠🍸

5️⃣ Herbsaint – This spot blew me away. The fried green tomatoes come topped with shrimp (I don’t normally love shrimp, but these were incredible). Do not sleep on the duck confit or their insane Banana Brown Butter Tart. 🍤🦆

6️⃣ Meril – Had a perfect bowl of gumbo and a unique pineapple upside-down cornbread. 🍲🍍

I also snagged a secret list of food recommendations straight from a NOLA local—comment “NOLA” below and I’ll slide the photo into your DMs! 👇

I was told drinking wine on a gondola in Venice was a “tourist trap.” Four years ago, I celebrated my 30th birthday floating down the Venetian canals. The internet gatekeepers said it was overrated, but sipping a great Italian red on those velvet cushions remains one of my favorite travel memories ever.

Sometimes, the clichés are classics for a reason. You just have to do them right.

3 Tips to Recreate the Magic (Save for later!): I🍷👇
1️⃣ Escape the Crowds: Don’t hire a boat near St. Mark’s. Walk into quieter neighborhoods like Cannaregio for a peaceful, intimate ride.
2️⃣ BYO-Wine: Gondoliers don’t provide the drinks! Hit a local alimentari beforehand for a bottle and glasses.
3️⃣ Know the Rate: Government rates are fixed. Confirm the price before stepping on board.

Where are you headed for your next birthday trip?
