Our 7-year-old has been eyeing the high dive at our local pool all summer, but one thing stood in his way- a swim test.

He failed the test twice, the second time brought him to tears. He was SO close. He just couldn't quite get past the 45 seconds of treading water in the deep end. We watched his confidence dwindle, even though he had been taking swim lessons for the better part of two years. The hit to his confidence made him want to avoid the pool, even though swimming is one of his favorite things to do.

But as they say, third time is a charm! He passed the test and now we can't keep him off the high dive!

As parents, we see confidence in our kids when they try something new and start to believe in themselves. As storytellers, we see it in business owners when they sit down in front of a camera. Nervous at first, unsure of what to say—and then slowly, beautifully, they start telling their story with heart, clarity, and conviction.

Confidence doesn’t always show up loud, it builds quietly, moment by moment. But when it clicks, it’s powerful. Whether it’s a kid finally passing the swim test or a leader owning their story, it’s an honor to witness.

At Homeplace Creative, building confidence in telling your story is what we do best.

Let's say this loud so everyone can hear it STORYTELLING ISN'T A SCRIPT! 📢

A script is something you read. A story is something lived. When it’s your story, your business, your purpose, your experience, it shouldn’t sound like you’re performing someone else’s lines.

Scripts are predictable. But real stories, the ones people remember, are full of personality, surprise, and heart. They reflect the way you think, speak, and feel. If you try to script, you risk cutting out the very thing that makes your story powerful: you.

Sadly, the term storytelling has become cliche, so here's what storytelling ISN'T:

❌ It’s not a data dump
❌ It’s not oversharing
❌It’s not marketing fluff

We could go on and on, but our CEO (and PhD with a focus in Storytelling), Meg, shares this simple, but not easy, definition of what storytelling IS.

If you or your business needs help storytelling, we know how to help!

We came to film, but walking away with conversations from the mental performance coaches at Kevin Bille's Good Stuff Summit felt like a gift. 🎁

Vanessa Shannon caught my (Kyle's) attention talking about storms, of course, and the difference between cows and buffalo and why you should run TOWARDS the storm and not away from it. 🌩

We’re excited to have had the opportunity to film the 2025 Good Stuff Summit in Sugarcreek, Ohio, a day where real conversations and inspiring stories took center stage. Getting to interview dynamic speakers like Kevin Bille and turn their energy into meaningful video is what we love most. Events like this deserve more than a recap—they deserve to be felt long after they’re over. At Homeplace Creative, we capture the moments, the voices, and the heart behind every gathering. If you’re planning an event, let’s talk about how video can help it live on!

We recently filmed a powerful testimonial for . It was completely unscripted, as almost all of our videos are. Just a real customer, sharing how the team transformed their space and made the process easy from start to finish. When future clients hear honest stories like that, trust builds fast—because it’s not a sales pitch, it’s a real experience. That’s the kind of connection polished ads can’t buy. At Homeplace Creative, we capture stories that feel genuine, because they are.

People connect with people, and nothing builds trust like a real, human story. When we shared Brandi and her daughter, Hannah’s journey to finding the right dentist, it struck a chord with so many. Hannah, who was born with a brain injury and lives with disabilities, found comfort and joy with Dr. Nate Minter at Minter Dentistry , and that moment of connection mattered. At Homeplace Creative, we don’t just tell stories—we help your audience feel them. Because when you lead with heart, people don’t just watch, they believe.

As a board member and mentor for the The Legacy Project of Stark , it was an added bonus when Rachel walked in to be interviewed for being selected for the 20 Under 40 recognition from the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce! Rachel has been nothing short of a STAR for kids in Stark County in her role with Legacy.

Filming Rachel along with the other 19 recipients has been a highlight of the year so far!

Here at Homeplace Creative we KNOW a PERSISTENT video presence is crucial to marketing your business. So, here's a story about persistence 👇

When I (Kyle) was a young meteorologist and news anchor, I asked my boss if I could submit for the "Best Anchor" category in the annual AP awards for Ohio. He told me no—the station wouldn’t pay for the entry.

I could have let that be the end of it. But I believed in my work, so I decided to fund the entry myself. And guess what? I won.

That experience taught me a lesson I carry with me to this day: if you wait for permission, you might be waiting forever. Sometimes, you have to bet on yourself, push forward, and create your own opportunities.

That same persistence is at the heart of video storytelling. Great content doesn’t just happen—it takes showing up consistently, telling your story even when it feels like no one is listening, and pushing past the doubts and roadblocks.

Whether you’re building a brand, growing a business, or trying to connect with your audience, persistence is what sets you apart. Keep sharing, keep creating, and keep believing in your story. The right people will notice!

When I (Kyle) was a kid, I was deathly afraid of thunderstorms. The kind of fear that made my heart race, that kept me glued to the television, sometimes hidden in the basement waiting for the storm to pass. It wasn’t just a little childhood worry—it was crippling anxiety.

But something changed when I started to understand the weather. I read everything I could about it, learned how storms formed, what made the sky turn dark, why thunder rumbled, how tornadoes formed. The more I knew, the less I feared. That curiosity eventually led me to become a television meteorologist.

Every time I stepped and still step in front of the camera, I thought of myself as a child—scared, anxious, just wanting someone to explain what was happening. That became my why. I wanted to be calm, reassuring, and credible for those watching, just like I had once needed.

Today, as a storyteller at Homeplace Creative, I encourage my clients to tap into their own why—to share the passion, the purpose, and the personal stories that drive them. Because when you market yourself in a way that’s real and relatable, people don’t just see your business. They see you. And that’s how trust is built.

So, what’s your why? What story shaped the work you do today?

Meg and I (Kyle) have just finished the first cut of a narrative for a full-length documentary we're working on, celebrating the Churches of God's 200th anniversary!

It’s been an incredible journey, interviewing pastors and church leaders from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to San Diego, California. The stories shared have been nothing short of inspiring—insightful leaders pushing boundaries and growing their churches in exciting and innovative ways.

The experience has deepened my understanding of faith, community, and leadership in today’s world. It’s an honor to be part of this project!
