Before Homeplace Creative ever existed, Megan and I were co-anchors at a small TV station in Lima, Ohio. In our career infancy, this was before we were dating, which made every broadcast a little… painful. The transitions were clunky, the small talk was awkward, and the eye contact? Let’s just say we were better at avoiding it than making it.

Somehow, those awkward nights behind the desk turned into 15 years of marriage and, eventually, a business built on storytelling. It’s a reminder that not every story starts polished. But those rough beginnings can still lead to something pretty great!

At Homeplace Creative, we know being on camera can feel awkward at first. You don’t have to have it all figured out, that’s where we come in. With our experience both behind the camera and in front of it, we help small business owners accelerate the learning curve, build confidence, and start connecting with clients faster through video. Because when your clients know, like, and trust you, the rest is easy!

Knowing and trusting your doctor isn’t just important, it’s everything. When patients feel a genuine connection with the person caring for them, confidence and comfort follow. At Homeplace Creative, we love bringing out the personalities of healthcare professionals so that their compassion, warmth, and expertise shine through. Because when patients can see who their doctor really is, trust grows, and that makes all the difference. 🙌

Let us help you show the heart behind your care. Because when patients know you, they can trust you.

Marty once thought his best option was to simply “outlive” the dental work he believed he’d have to endure. Years of putting it off had left him without confidence in his smile, or in himself. Then he met Dr. Nate and the team at Minter Dentistry. With compassion, care, and a plan tailored just for him, Marty was able to restore his oral health. Today, he says he’s smiling for the first time in years.

Stories like Marty’s show the power of hope, care, and transformation. At Homeplace Creative, we help businesses and organizations share these kinds of stories. The ones that reveal impact, build trust, and connect on a human level. If you have stories like this waiting to be told, let’s bring them to life together.

We recently filmed with Panther, a community health worker, for this year's "Twenty Under 40" in Stark County. She shared that she chose this path because she wanted to become the person she needed in her life when she was a foster kid, giving a voice to the voiceless. Stories like these help us see the “why” behind the work, and they invite all of us to understand and care in a deeper way.

At Homeplace Creative, we believe stories like this are too important to go untold. If your work is driven by a deeper why, let us help you share it in a way that resonates, connects, and inspires. Reach out! We’d love to help you tell your story.

Minerva, Ohio may be small, but it’s full of charm, character, and community. We recently had the chance to tell that story through a promo video featuring one of our favorite local spots Sandy Springs Brewing Company

As part of a larger series for Visit Canton promoting Stark County destinations, this video highlights not only the beauty of Minerva, but the passion Andy and Amanda pour into every pint at Sandy Springs. Their story is one of dedication, creativity, and the kind of warmth you only find in a hometown brewery.

We loved spending time in Minerva and getting to know the people who make it special. This project reminded us just how much storytelling can capture the heart of a place, and how proud we are to help shine a light on local gems like Sandy Springs.

We recently had the pleasure of stepping behind the scenes at Gervasi Vineyard Resort & Spa to capture a process that’s as thoughtful as it is timeless, winemaking.

This video tells the story of more than just grapes and barrels. It’s about the people who pour their passion into every step. From selecting the perfect fruit, to monitoring the fermentation process with precision, to patiently aging the wine until it’s ready to be shared.

We’re proud to help tell this story, and to highlight a local business that takes such pride in producing something truly special for our community.

Meg and I had the honor of helping Compassion Delivered bring their powerful mission to life in a new way, through the launch of The Compassion Delivered Podcast!

Hosted by co-founder Amanda Anschutz, the podcast is a heartfelt space where stories of caregiving, grief, faith, and healing are shared with honesty and hope. Just like the meals they deliver to those battling life-threatening illnesses, these stories are nourishment for the soul.

At Homeplace Creative, we specialize in storytelling that connects, and podcast production is one of the many ways we help organizations do just that. From concept, to recording, to launch, we’re proud to help clients like Compassion Delivered share their voice in a way that’s both professional and deeply personal.

100 miles. 7 hours. One very humbling wall at mile 70.

Every summer, I build up to one big day on my bike; a solo 100-mile(ish) ride from Canal Fulton to Cleveland along the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath. I wait for that “perfect” weather day. This year it was 77 degrees and sunny. I'd say that's pretty darn near ideal!

I love using these long rides to experiment. This time I packed about 1,000 calories. Carb gummies, hydration mix, low-sugar protein bars to name a few. I've found from past rides that if I sit and eat for too long, I get into trouble with cramping and being able to warm up again. So, I've learned at least for me, that I do better with lighter foods and just eating while I'm riding.

This year I thought I had it dialed in. But at mile 70, I hit a wall-hard. Energy gone. Pace tanked. It felt like I was crawling through those last 30 miles. Reflecting back, I definitely didn't pack enough food. I even had to stop in Boston Mills for an emergency bag of Cheetos 😅 I sat for too long, started cramping a bit and certainly did myself no favors, but I finished.

You don’t coast your way to 100 miles. You build up to it. You show up consistently. You stay committed when it’s not easy. It’s a good reminder that progress isn’t always clean or fast. Sometimes, it’s just one pedal stroke after another. 💪

Our 7-year-old has been eyeing the high dive at our local pool all summer, but one thing stood in his way- a swim test.

He failed the test twice, the second time brought him to tears. He was SO close. He just couldn't quite get past the 45 seconds of treading water in the deep end. We watched his confidence dwindle, even though he had been taking swim lessons for the better part of two years. The hit to his confidence made him want to avoid the pool, even though swimming is one of his favorite things to do.

But as they say, third time is a charm! He passed the test and now we can't keep him off the high dive!

As parents, we see confidence in our kids when they try something new and start to believe in themselves. As storytellers, we see it in business owners when they sit down in front of a camera. Nervous at first, unsure of what to say—and then slowly, beautifully, they start telling their story with heart, clarity, and conviction.

Confidence doesn’t always show up loud, it builds quietly, moment by moment. But when it clicks, it’s powerful. Whether it’s a kid finally passing the swim test or a leader owning their story, it’s an honor to witness.

At Homeplace Creative, building confidence in telling your story is what we do best.

Let's say this loud so everyone can hear it STORYTELLING ISN'T A SCRIPT! 📢

A script is something you read. A story is something lived. When it’s your story, your business, your purpose, your experience, it shouldn’t sound like you’re performing someone else’s lines.

Scripts are predictable. But real stories, the ones people remember, are full of personality, surprise, and heart. They reflect the way you think, speak, and feel. If you try to script, you risk cutting out the very thing that makes your story powerful: you.

07/23/2025

Sadly, the term storytelling has become cliche, so here's what storytelling ISN'T:

❌ It’s not a data dump
❌ It’s not oversharing
❌It’s not marketing fluff

We could go on and on, but our CEO (and PhD with a focus in Storytelling), Meg, shares this simple, but not easy, definition of what storytelling IS.

If you or your business needs help storytelling, we know how to help!
