The Massillon Museum and Canton Museum of Art are pleased to announce Matthew Ferrell as a finalist for the 2026 Art Educator of the Year Award! The winner of the award will be announced during intermission at the Canton Symphony Orchestra's March 28 concert, Braham's A German Requiem.
Matthew Ferrell is the Media Arts Instructor at Massillon Washington High School, where he has spent the past ten years teaching students the art, discipline, and creative responsibility of media production. Through the multi award-winning WHS-TV media arts program, Ferrell helps students discover their creative voices, develop professional-level skills, and build a lasting appreciation for art, storytelling, and visual communication. He is a six-time Stark County Art Teacher of the Year Finalist, received the Ohio Association for Career and Technical Education’s Outstanding New Career and Technical Teacher of the Year award, and earned the highest possible Ohio Teacher Evaluation System rating of Accomplished eight consecutive years. Ferrell's students have earned 15 Business Professionals of America awards and nine Student Production Awards.
Ferrell works alongside students and colleagues on initiatives that expanded artistic opportunity and elevated student work. These efforts included launching WHS-TV’s social media platforms, leading a comprehensive station rebrand and imaging overhaul, streamlining technology and workflows, creating WHS-TV Junior for local junior high students, and developing the “CTE Works 4 Me” logo and marketing campaign to promote career and technical education across the district.
