A shattered car window and a boozy barber. A missing dog-tooth necklace named “Peaches.” A traffic-cone dispute. And a man who told police he wasn’t urinating on the side of the road — he had stopped for an entirely different reason. Southold Town police had another busy week across the North Fork.

The blotter also includes a far more serious incident: Police investigated a report that a man allegedly tried to lure a child from a Greenport West yard. Officers later located the man carrying a kitchen knife, according to a police report. He denied making the statement attributed to him.

Give nature a little breathing room, and what comes back may surprise you.
This Saturday, ReWild North Fork and Group for the East End are inviting the public to explore Skipper Horton Park in Greenport, where native plants are reclaiming ground after invasive species were removed — bringing benefits for bees, butterflies, birds and the North Fork’s groundwater.
“Where the Wild Things Grow” is a free, hourlong native plant discovery walk beginning at 10 a.m. Sept. 12. Advance registration is required and space is limited.
